Blake Bone talks about choosing the Cats

In case you missed it earlier, 4-star wide receiver Blake Bone chose Kentucky this morning over his home state school South Carolina. The Courier-Journal’s Steve Jones spoke with Bone shortly after his announcement to talk about his decision. Here are a few of his best quotes about becoming a Cat:

Why was Kentucky a good choice for you?

They were in my top three for a while. I fell in love with South Carolina, my home-state school, but I didn’t think that was necessarily the best fit for me, and I thought UK throws it a lot more there in the Air Raid and has got new coaches and everything. There are so many opportunities for me to go down there and blossom as a receiver and develop and try to get to my full potential. (Receivers) coach (Tommy) Mainord is a great guy. I think he can develop me and get me where I need to be as a receiver so I can be productive in the offense and hopefully win games in Lexington.

How much was their new offense, with Coach Mainord and (offensive coordinator) Neal Brown, that they were bringing over from Texas Tech a factor for you?

It was a big factor for me. If they were on the same page, going the same route (as the previous UK staff) I never would have picked Kentucky to finish in my final two and commit. The coaching staff, the new era and the new feel for the program kind of lit up my eyes and made me interesting and eventually made me want to go play ball there. That’s what happened.

That’s yet another recruit who says he never would have considered Kentucky under the previous staff. Stoops has built some major buzz around the program, and it’s becoming less and less shocking to see the Cats land four-star talent.

Bone told Jones that Stoops was “excited” when he told him his decision earlier today, and that he’s really looking forward to playing with Drew Barker and UK’s other wide receivers in the 2014 class. For more great quotes from UK’s latest commitment, check out the full interview.

B-b-b-b-bad to the Bone. B-b-b-b-b-bad…

It definitely proves that UK needed a coaching change. I believe we already knew it but the recruits saying things like that just further prove it.

based on that pen in his shirt pocket it is my belief he’ll make big plays, and make better grades. Come on guys that a throw back look. Love it and bet he gets an appropriate nick name.

$5 says BTI is cooking up tomorrow’s 9am post: “BTI’s Rants and Ramblings: Who would you rather have, Bone or Mudiay?”

…and then proceed to say how much he’d rather have Mudiay than Bone, to the ire of BBN.

Quite the nerdy look but it hides the impact he and the rest of this crop of recruits will make.

keep reading about WRs as targets for Barker. Is it reasonable to think that he will start as a true freshman over experienced upperclassmen? I’m not attacking Drew, I’m just asking. Smith was pretty good last year beofe his injury. Whitlow- hopefully- will improve this year. Towles and Reece. He might redshirt next year
