Bellarmine moving to Division I to join Atlantic Sun

After a ton of speculation it would happen in the very near future, Bellarmine University is moving to the Division I level in the NCAA.

The news will be made official in a press conference at the university on Tuesday. WDRB’s Eric Crawford already has the story though, including details on the switch.

According to Crawford, the Knights will join the Atlantic Sun Conference for the 2020-21 athletic seasons. Crawford also noted it is a four-year process to move up to D-1, so Bellarmine will not be eligible for postseason play right away, but can contend for its league’s regular season championships.

Bellarmine will join Florida Gulf Coast, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Liberty, Lipscomb, New Jersey Institute of Technology, North Alabama, North Florida and Stetson in the Atlantic Sun.
