Guess we’ll learn tonight whether this team is motivated by revenge, looks like we’ll need to be in the tourney.

Hope UK fans will learn from the Kansas-West Virginia game….don’t leave with 3 minutes left in the game. KU fans left when they were down 14 and 2:30 left, and they won the game….bet they felt like fools.

I watched the end of that game. West Virginia choked a fair amount, but they also got jobbed by the officials. Kansas shot 44 free-throws. That’s 44 free throws when 26 of their 61 shot attempts were threes.

      10:29 am February 14, 2017 Permalink

I’ve said before and I’ll say again. West Virginia is one of a handful of teams that could give us fits in the tournament. I’m more worried about WVU than Kansas.

    • runningunnin.454
      10:35 am February 14, 2017 Permalink

The officiating was, of course, one-sided. Kansas wen over 4 minutes without a basket, and still cut W.V.’s lead. Go back to 2 referees; one less whistle to ruin the game.

You know what drove me crazy in our game against Alabama on Saturday? A lot of the crappiest calls were by an official who was out of position.

    • ukjaybrat

know when i knew west virginia was going to lose that game last night?
When i looked at the schedule and saw it was at kansas.
they have more home cooking than any arena in the history of basketball. it’s ridiculous. don’t give me crowd noise or atmosphere either. They have more blatantly bad calls and ridiculous numbers of free throws and come back wins without even scoring buckets (bc of said free throws) than any other team i’ve ever seen.

    • J-Dub421
      10:49 am February 14, 2017 Permalink

In the last minute or so of regulation plus the five minutes of overtime (about 6 minutes of playing time), Kansas shot 12-14 free-throws while West Virginia only shot 2. West Virginia had some inexcusable turnovers, but the refs swallowed their whistles when WVU got bumped while shooting etc. It was very one-sided.

Refs at Kansas are biased in favor of Kansas. SEC refs are just inept and inconsistent.

    • J-Dub421
      11:38 am February 14, 2017 Permalink

Okay, I just went and read the article. They can say “it was a joke,” but the comments didn’t really sound joking in any way. At least not from his mom. She clearly does not want him at UK for whatever reason. Whatever. After his dad criticized the Oklahoma media for a pretty banal article, I kind of figured that Young really couldn’t handle all the scrutiny here.

I think it’s impossible to tell without being there, but the writer of the original article should have been able to describe the context better if it was a joke.

  12. Laker Cat 18

Trae Young’s mother sounds similar to Marques Bolden’s. Bolden’s pick seems to have worked out nicely for him. Averaging 8 mpg, 2 ppg, & 1 rpg at Duke.

    • runningunnin.454
      11:22 am February 14, 2017 Permalink

That’s a fact, Bolden sure looks miserable sitting on Duke’s bench.

    • RealCatsFan
      11:27 am February 14, 2017 Permalink

But I doubt if he looks any worse than SKJ. See post below.

    • Laker Cat 18
      11:36 am February 14, 2017 Permalink

Bolden was a top 12 player in the class, 3rd ranked player in Duke’s class. While SKJ was around 25th, he was still the 5th best recruit we brought in. Not to mention he committed first I believe. I expected him to produce more than he has, but I can see why he has gotten lost in the shuffle with the returning players. Bolden made a mistake being the 3rd ranked guy 6’8″ or higher they signed last year. It may not have been the best pick for him to come to UK, but it was definitely a bad decision choosing Duke.

    • J-Dub421
      11:46 am February 14, 2017 Permalink

I just read an article the other day (I think on SI’s website) that was about whether there is a place or not for a player like Jahlil Okafor in today’s NBA. It made it sound like the 76er’s are shopping him around for trade and not getting much interest. It sounded like Okafor could potentially be out of the league in a few years, which would be rather astounding.

    • runningunnin.454
      11:56 am February 14, 2017 Permalink

Tyus Jones is not exactly setting the league on fire. Duke players do well in college; but, they’re not prepared for the NBA.

    • WatchutalkinboutWillis
      12:24 pm February 14, 2017 Permalink

To be fair, it depends on the player. I think Justise Winslow and Jabari Parker are doing well. But if you were a big guy and you were choosing Duke Vs UK for one or two years why on earth would you pick Duke? *cough, cough Bamba…

I wish Cal would address why he doesn’t even get a chance to play.

    • RealCatsFan
      11:24 am February 14, 2017 Permalink

I don’t know what to think about Sacha. What the hell did this poor kid do to end up so far down in Cal’s doghouse? I used to ridicule Pitino for not playing his freshmen, but the little white kid from Florida is getting key minutes in games and actually contributing. Meanwhile we have a McD’s AA riding the pine with ZERO playing time. I love Cal, and absolutely think he is the best fit for this program, but stuff like this absolutely drives me up a wall. I thought SKJ looked pretty good in some of the early games, albeit against inferior competition. When he gets in for garbage time he looks totally lost now. How can a kid get any confidence established if he never gets in and gets the hook as soon as he makes a mistake? Can he be that much worse than Humphries with the same amount of PT?

    • RealCatsFan
      11:26 am February 14, 2017 Permalink

And I will go on to say that having a 5-star McD’s AA not playing at all can’t be good for Cal’s image as a “players first” program and fast track to the NBA.

Used to be a commercial on TV; don’t even remember what they were peddling. It was with a bunch of older black guys obviously playing ball on an inner city court with the chain nets.
One guy with a beard and forty years old was knocking them down, “When the threes rain out of the sky, they will wear you out”.

      “Pass the ball, man”
“I do pass the ball, man..get open”
“All your passes are 10 foot high and hit the rim”.

For me, the fact that UConn wins it every year completely turns me off to watching women’s BB. Why bother watching the NCAA tournament if you know how it is going to end every year? The thing that makes the men’s tournament so interesting is that there are probably ten teams every year that have a legitimate chance to win it. Not so with women’s game.

There is more parity in the men’s game…..that gap will narrow in years to come; like the gap USA had in international play years ago.
That one year, UCONN had the 6’11” and 6’10” players, I wondered if they got them from Montauk Island where the government allegedly does experiments in genetic research.
