Good morning, friends. It’s Friday and that means it’s the last show before the weekend. Hold your applause. Today, Matt Jones and Ryan Lemond will look ahead to Kentucky’s upcoming game against Tennessee. The Cats and Vols are set to do battle at noon on Saturday and KSR has everything you need to know, well some of it, before the game.

Plus, Mark Stoops visited one of his favorite targets in the 2015 class on Thursday and Matt Elam opened his doors to both the Alabama and Kentucky coaching staffs.

That, and more, this morning on KSR.

Join in on the fun by calling (502) 571-1080.

Sad to hear about the Professor has now died… I started thinking about Ginger and Mary Ann still on the island, but since Gilligan has been dead since 2005, the Professor was probably finally able to figure out a way off the island without having Gilligan mess it up.

So what is the deal with all of these early start times for Saturday games at Rupp? Why aren’t there any late afternoon or evening games anymore? I have tickets to the Tenn game tomorrow, and I also have a volleyball tournament for my daughters in New Albany in the morning. So I am going to have to leave in the middle of the tourney, drive to Lexington for the game, and then drive back in hopes of catching the rest of their games. Aside from the Florida game, I think there is only one weekend game on the schedule that is later than 1:30 PM, and that is LSU at 4. It makes for a tough time to get together with your buddies to have a few cold ones and watch the game somewhere, not to mention the fact that it makes for lethargic crowds at Rupp. Seems like I recall us having more evening games on the weekends in years past. Is this something new? I assume it has everything to do with TV coverage. Does college basketball in general, and UK in particular, no longer have any clout when it comes to scheduling these games>

Laker Cat, I’m actually pretty torn about it, but they are lower level tickets, and it is rare for me to get to see a UK game, much less one that close. Also, they will have 8 or 9 more tournaments. Had the tickets way before the club volleyball schedules came out. Wouldn’t matter if I didn’t have a volleyball game, I just hate these damned early start times!

I still absolutely love this teams upside.. why, because this team can drive to the hoop better then any team in the country and if they stop shooting 3’s as much that will benefit more then it benefits other teams who are not as good.. when that’s our identity along with half court defense, who in the country would you be worried about

    • Carmine
      11:12 am January 17, 2014 Permalink

That upside has to be realized soon..We cant think we will turn it on and come together like 2011 team..Its not easy to just all of a sudden have things click, forget 3 pointers right now turnovers, free throws, and bad defense(including defensive switches that are horrific) The upside is there but the most talented players dont always make the best team..Look at last years Red Sox not close to the most talented team last year but the were a great team that had a great locker room..

Alex was a top 15 recruit from Tennessee which isn’t exactly a basketball hotbed. He is a straight A student who is graduating in three years. He probably hasn’t ever had to work for anything in his life because everything comes so natural to him. He hasn’t ever challenged and now he is answering the bell. I’m extremely proud of Alex and how he has played this season.

Alex probably is having a blast playing basketball right now and can’t get enough of it. That’s a great sign he’s practicing a lot. Those are the type of players who never want the season to end, and who you want playing for your team in the tournament.

Wasn’t at Rupp, but went to the 1977 Tennessee game at Memorial. I was a senior in high school, and I had an uncle that worked the gate that let me and several friends in. It was the infamous “switcheroo” game where Ernie Grunfeld shot free throws for Bernard King. Cats lost, but payback was sweet. We went to McDonald’s on Nicholasville Road afterwards. Parked in the back of the lot was the Tennessee bus. We mixed catsup into snowballs and started pelting the bus. Bernard King tried to climb out of the window to get us and he got stuck. We just unloaded on him. Manager finally asked us, nicely, to leave. He was laughing his a** off.
