Auburn lost again… Is South Carolina for real?

Jeff Blake-USA TODAY Sports

Jeff Blake-USA TODAY Sports

I know you’re probably here for all things Kentucky-Mississippi State, but it’s worth noting Auburn dropped a second game in a row, this time at South Carolina. The Gamecocks won outright as an 8.5 point home underdog, 80-77.

Once considered a threat to win the SEC regular season crown, Bruce Pearl’s Tigers dropped to under .500 in conference play with a 2-3 record through five games. With six more games against teams currently ranked in the top 25, including a rematch with Kentucky in Rupp Arena, it’s hard to imagine Auburn will be in the hunt at the end of season.

LSU is actually the team to watch now, along with Tennessee, of course. LSU is undefeated in league play with maybe the easiest remaining schedule.

And do we worry about South Carolina too? South Carolina is tied with Kentucky at 5-1 in the SEC with wins over 14th-ranked Mississippi State, 16th-ranked Auburn and on the road at Florida.

NO. USC is not good, it is the SEC that is not good. USC lost to Wyoming, Wofford, Stony Brook, Providence…any decent team does not lose to all of them. They have 0 good wins. Scheduling is why the SEC looks good, they have good records but who did they beat. In non SEC play USC best win? Is it Norfolk ST, Coastal Carolina or SC Upstate? Same with Ole Miss who everyone is talking about. Please, UK would be undefeated vs that schedule and USC schedule. Miss St I said yesterday, not a good team. Has not beaten anyone good. LSU looks the part and I want to say they are good but again, no good wins so have to wait and see as they did lose to Ok St and Houston…yikes…as of now LSU is a no. Now Tenn has just the ot loss vs Kansas and did beat Gonzaga, won at rival Memphis and beat U6, plus they have beaten the SEC teams easily. Gotta say they are that good, we seem to be improving but hard to say as playing these weak teams does not prove anything except for the fact we did beat them by 21 like a good team should {that is a good sign}. The Auburn win is not great, they did play dUKe close but have no real good wins. Arizona win is good but not as good as past years. Plus they are missing Wiley. SEC is really just UT right now and hopefully UK by March. I said before the year we will get a good record because we play in the SEC. UK and Tenn only teams that have a shot at moving past the 1st weekend of the tourney. Like last year all you saying look how many teams got in, well none had a chance and most were gone 1st weekend and most lost to lower seeded teams.

SEC is “streaky”. Tennessee is 100% legit. We are getting better each game and starting to resemble a 2 seed. More will be revealed this weekend. LSU has the potential to be a 2nd weekend team. Auburn, Miss st, and ole miss are def tourney teams but they’re just streaky. Ole miss is currently being blown out at Alabama.

But to say the SEC isn’t any good? I mean what are we comparing it to? Is it better than the ACC, no. Is it better than the big 10 or big 12? 100%. No question.

Don’t pay any attention to Bashburn. He’s anti-UK and anti-SEC.

You realize over 75% of the field doesn’t make it to the second weekend? Having more than 2 teams make the second weekend is a very very tough thing to do. I’d wait and see how the SEC does against the Big 12 before throwing the entire conference under the bus. Other teams from other conferences are losing too. It isn’t just the SEC. Texas tech just got waxed by Kansas st and Michigan barely beat Minnesota at home on a last second shot.

I think UT UK ole miss, and LSU are all pretty good. Not sold on auburn; but all teams are tough at home except for a few. Interested to see how the SEC/BIG 12 showdown turns out this weekend.

I think Auburn has a good basketball team… I honestly think tonight’s loss was probably a result of Saturday’s game… Not downing South Carolina but I think Auburn suffered another loss because of a let down… They made a good comeback against Kentucky and yet fell short… Plus they are missing Wiley… But this happens a lot kind of like how they were calling this Miss St game a trap game for us… it was sandwiched between two really good teams… I can see how Auburn came out flat tonight after losing Saturday the way they did… Just my opinion don’t mean anything just a theory

I am not saying this to give Kentucky credit or hype us in any way… Just saying that the Auburn players probably wasn’t nearly excited to play a game against South Carolina… As they were to play Kentucky over the weekend… I mean it is hard to get 18 and 19 year old kids to stay focused and play as hard one to the next… it happens

I would agree with that. Actually believe that’s what happened with us at Alabama. It wasn’t sandwiched but it was coming after back to back big games.

Auburn was yet another example of how when you play Kentucky someone just plays unreal and goes off for a career high in points! We had auburn buried deep and they dug themselves out with the 3 and the atmosphere. It happens. We let miss state have a run too and those are gonna happen but are becoming a problem. When you miss 2 dunks and make a bunch of sloppy passes in a stretch your just asking the other team to take control. Other than that we played great. We are way better than we’re playing, some things are a bit frustrating but wait til March when all that is ironed out!We still beat a quad1 team by 20! Ej needs to figure something out, he’s not college ready but the depth is great to have. Find something that kid can hang his hat on and build on that for next yr. he had a opportunity to dunk it and murder a guy and tried to reverse it. Smh!
