Army AA Bowl Halftime Update: Barker and Elam Haven’t Disappointed

After a slow start, the #BBN is in for a treat on NBC. The future of Kentucky Football has been nothing but exceptional.  4-4 for 56 yards doesn’t sound very impressive, but Drew Barker has led the West team to the only 2 scores of the game.

Barker has done a little bit of everything.  He has ran a couple of power runs up the middle, thrown a screen pass, rolled out and hung in the pocket. The first scoring drive started near goal line, taking a sack on the 2nd play from a South Carolina commit.  What was impressive was his pass on 3rd and 17, getting it to 4th and 1 before his RB scored two plays later.  A strike down the center of the field on the second drive was his prettiest pass, moving the ball down to the 2 yard line. Barker is showing poise against the best of the best after replacing the #1 QB in the nation (Johnny Football’s replacement) in the 2nd quarter.

Matt Elam hasn’t done too bad in his limited action either. Elam entered on the 2nd drive of the game, taking down future Stanford RB Christian McCaffery in the backfield on his first play from scrimmage.  Since his first big play Elam has been rotating in and out constantly, commonplace in games like this and at the college level.

I’m going ham on Twitter. Keep in touch for updates throughout the game @RoushKSR

    Barker FTW.

Drew looked great in his drive that led to his team’s second TD. Matt, not so much. A missed blocking assignment allowed him to make his only play. He only moves the line on bull rushes because he can’t get out of a 3-pt or 4-pt stance. Not too concerned where he chooses to go.

Drew has been very impressive so far! He has already shown in this game that he is better than the quarterbacks UK played this year. I can see why Brown and Stoops are so excited. I say start him next year and let’s start turning things around with UK football. I don’t believe a freshman can’t start a quarterback in the SEC because it has happened at other schools and these freshmen did fine.

Elam needs coached. He’s like having a Renardo Sidney….good in HS. Because of his size.

Elam will fit right in at UK. A fat slow DT that gets no penetration is one area we seem to excel.

I thought we were expected to get some recruits today? Does the Elam postponement mean we get no one today?

WOW. I really thought we might have a shot at some of these players. Now I am depressed.

Barker has looked great, It will be nice to have a QB that can throw farther than 5 yards. I haven’t hardly even seen Elam.

Elam looks slow and lazy, maybe he can play off tackle. Disappointed. Barker is a solid and welcome addition to the program.

Everyone in the game looks better than Elam today. Too slow to play in the SEC. What is Bama and UK thinking? Enough with playing little games. He needs to commit to Kentucky Christian University or Georgetown.

Yeah. Why on earth would Mark Stoops and Nick Saban offer a scholarship to a kid that a blog commenter named JoeDaddy that doesn’t think Elam can cut it? Do Saban and Stoops know anything about evaluating football talent? No chance they know more than JoeDaddy.

JoeDaddy is exactly correct and a very good judge of football talent. Elam is a 2016 project in the making for someone. We all know football coaches never make recruiting mistakes. Joker can verify that.
