Arkansas radio station reporting Malik Monk will sign with Kentucky

Earlier this morning, KSR teased you with some potential big news coming for Kentucky basketball today. A last-minute, early signing period surprise, if you will.

Well, word of what we know is starting to trickle out around the internet. Trey Schaap of 103.7 The Buzz in Little Rock, Arkansas is the first to throw it out there — that Malik Monk will sign with Kentucky.

According to Schaap, Monk wanted to commit to Arkansas, but his brother, former Arkansas wide receiver Marcus Monk, will not let him become a Razorback because of “distractions.” Whether that’s the case or not, we’ll take Monk however he wants to get here.

Now let’s get that signature on a Letter of Intent.

Hmm. That is odd, if true. If he truly wants Arkansas, he should go there. If true. We don’t need a guy who’s heart is in another place. I hope that part was just BS added by that radio guy.

At best, sounds like something he just told someone to pass the blame off him. His brother may even volunteered so it isn’t a distraction for him the rest of the season. Maybe a few less boos from the crowd.

Crazy to think we wrap up a five man class before the first semester ends. That has never happened under Cal. Usually a lot of recruits are waiting on who is leaving before committing. Does make you wonder if Cal and the players already know they all are already leaving no matter how the draft projections go. Cal also would let any player out of their loi if they wanted to. So if Poyhress for example decided to come for a 5th year and one of the post player recruits wanted more playing time elsewhere because if this, Cal would not fight them over it. Briscoe originally wasn’t going to sign but Cal promised him if the twins came back he would let him out of it without any issue.

If by “distractions” his brother meant losing a lot and spending the season wishing he had signed with UK, then he’s correct.

Has anyone legit actually confirmed that Malik wanted to commit to Arkansas and his brother pushed him to UK? Otherwise, this just sounds like sour grapes from whoever this idiot Trey Schaap is.
