Five-star shooting guard Antonio Blakeney took his official visit to UK this past weekend and gave Scout’s Evan Daniels his thoughts on Lexington, the program, and John Calipari. In short? He was impressed. Blakeney said that he was surprised by how the UK players were treated like true professionals:
“What surprised me was just how the players are treated and how the strength coach is all on their butts and the academic are all on them,” he said. “They are treated like they are NBA players. I like that they are treated like NBA players. Not like in a celebrity way, but more making sure they have everything they need.”
Blakeney said he was really impressed with the turnout at Rupp Arena for an exhibition game, and although his reputation is for putting points up on offense, Calipari told him he believes he can be a lockdown defender as well. Blakeney’s also looking at Missouri, NC State, UNC, and LSU. In fact, he’ll take his official to LSU this weekend with his AAU teammate and current LSU commit Ben Simmons. Don’t expect a decision any time soon; Blakeney said he’ll probably wait until the spring.
