    Nice!

What is the KSR schedule for next week? You have to do a show on Friday. I have to work Friday so that would make the day go by quicker and plus it’s Louisville game on Saturday.

There was a guy named “Bird” near Dawson Springs, Ky back in the 90’s that had quite the selection of large cats as pets. Apparently, if you get a rescue license (or whatever) and proper cages to house them, it’s perfectly legal.

    • J-Dub421

That’s insane. That means that any idiot can get a cage and pay for a license and have a large carnivore on their property with no idea how to take care of it.

Why doesn’t UK Football have a Wildcat mascot on the sidelines a la LSU??

    • Crushgroove
      10:13 am December 17, 2014 Permalink

B/c wildcats don’t handle the stress of the crowd/noise and tend to die. That’s what I’ve always been told. I think UK tried it once and the cat died.

    • J-Dub421
      10:14 am December 17, 2014 Permalink

Because Wildcats don’t do well in captivity with large crowds. UK looked into it and said it would be detrimental to the health of the animal.

    • Cat House

Wildcats are not large and as scary looking as a Tiger. Also the doping of the Tiger borders on inhumane. Keep in mind there are no tigers walking around in Louisiana but there are wildcats roaming in Kentucky right now.

As a UK fan, I have always said that Kentucky would be much better off in a conference that is basketball centered like the ACC rather than a football conference like the SEC. It would give them an opportunity to build a decent football team without swimming upstream against a tsunami current, and the basketball team would get some better competition. And actually, they do get some competition in the SEC because they always have a huge target on them for these other SEC teams. Every year, they play on the road to packed arenas of rabid fans, and the teams have this date circled all year as their one chance to make a statement. It’s like walking through a minefield. These teams will always bring their best shot against the Wildcats and often play several levels above their normal play. I think a lot of times that makes it tougher rather than playing in a “better” conference where there are several highly ranked teams. When you play a ranked team on the road, you know what is coming and you are prepared, but when you are playing an Alabama, Arkansas, LSU, etc., your team might not take it as seriously because they aren’t ranked and have some bad losses, but you can believe that they are taking it seriously, and then you find yourself walking into a buzzsaw.

    • J-Dub421
      10:29 am December 17, 2014 Permalink

The big money is in football, so there is no way we’re ever leaving the SEC.

    • cracka
      10:35 am December 17, 2014 Permalink

we get our competition the way Cal prefers it … in the non-conference at neutral sites … best prepares young players for tourney experience … coming into this season we had SIX games scheduled against preseason top 10 teams, what more kind of competition do you want?

    • Mc12
      10:42 am December 17, 2014 Permalink

Also, the SEC has a lot of quality wins OOC this year although that won’t get as much love from the media that has bashed the conference. Like going 4-6 in the Big12/SEC challenge when the Big 12 is supposed to be the best conference top to bottom.

Also, I firmly believe that the SEC will be a top 3 conference next season. If LSU keeps a few bigs, Simmons will make them a top 10-15 team. Florida will return a lot and are only down at this point because they’ve been missing players. That will change. Expect them to be top 20 in a month. Malik Newman may choose Ole Miss, or Miss State. Bruce Pearl will turn Auburn around with recruiting after having a year under his belt. TX AM is bringing in a loaded class. Missouri is in complete rebuild mode, but the freshman are getting good experience this year.

    • RealCatsFan
      10:56 am December 17, 2014 Permalink

You guys are preaching to the choir. I guess my point is that the SEC doesn’t have any other elite teams except Kentucky, but they have a lot of average teams that on a given night can play above average. Those nights almost always come when UK comes to town, which makes playing in a conference like this more difficult than many want to give credit.

    • Mc12
      11:13 am December 17, 2014 Permalink

ESPN has an article by Myron Medcalf that says the SEC could be a boring ride for Kentucky. Many “experts” think the Big 12 is the best conference top-to-bottom. Kentucky has already beaten (by double digits) the two top teams in that conference. The SEC was 4-6 in the Big 12/SEC challenge. Wouldn’t the Big 12 be a boring ride for Kentucky too?

    • Mc12
      11:18 am December 17, 2014 Permalink

Also, this season, let’s look at the Big 10. Who is elite other than Wisconsin? None of them.

I think the SEC was really bad 2 years ago, when UK was short-handed. They were a little better last season, and a little better this season. 3 years ago, when Vandy was good, the conference had that 3rd really good team.

Now with the recruiting success coming in, they will be good over the next few years.

The ACC was “basketball centered” last year, but when the tournament came around, they were a no-show. Why is that?

Why has the Big 10, and Big 12 only won 1 championship each over this past quarter of a century?

There is not as big of a difference in basketball top to bottom like their is in the SEC for football. Recruiting is the obvious answer for that football wise. Now the conference is bringing it in basketball recruiting.

    • Mc12
      11:23 am December 17, 2014 Permalink

Also Florida is elite. The conference has two elite teams.

Should Arizona move to the ACC too?

Your passive aggressive egotism isn’t impressive. I’m not sure of your point. Tolkien’s literary works are obviously superior to the books however the only person who compared Comics, LotR, Hobbit was yourself. However, I would argue that a trilogy that won 17 Academy Awards is more than “Hollywood Trash”.

If you choose to reply it would be best if you acted like the adult you claim to be instead of using embarrassing remarks such as: “If either are true, please remember, you must be at least this tall to step to me, son.”

    • JoeMoney333
      1:31 pm December 17, 2014 Permalink

For someone who claims to be intellectually superior to a lot of people there are several inaccuracies in your statements.

“Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj have Gold records, too.” – Too? No one has mentioned gold records previously thus the word too is used incorrectly here.

Also your entire argument is a false equivalence fallacy. Gold records, unlike the academy awards are based on sales not quality. You could make an argument saying those awards are based on opinion, which would be correct. However, that boils this whole conversation back to the original point of your statement being nothing more than an opinion. An opinion based on short sighted prejudice and narcissism.

Whichever team gets on a roll for the particular couple of weeks during the conference and NCAA tourney, typically wins it. Rarely is it the team that has dominated and been ranked #1 all year.

    • RealCatsFan
      11:38 am December 17, 2014 Permalink

It happened in 2012, and I expect it to happen again this year, but you have a point that any team can be knocked out by a team that gets on a tear. I think saying it is “rare” for the team that has dominated all year to win the tourney is a stretch. More often than not it is a top-2 seeded team that wins it.

    • CATandMONKEY
      11:43 am December 17, 2014 Permalink

Except this year. You can only apply generalized statistics from years past when all teams in question are similar. This team and the schedule make for a totally different scenario that cannot be compared to ths past in an apples to apples manner.

It absolutely does happen that the best team wins it all but it must be noted that they are generally given the easiest draw in the tourney to obtain that championship also. One would think that the best team (on the year), along with the easiest path would win more times than not.

    • J-Dub421
      12:14 pm December 17, 2014 Permalink

I think the best teams win more often than not, but there are no guarantees in college basketball because of the single elimination tournament format. Look at the Syracuse team led by ‘Melo, UConn led by Emeka Okafore, the Michigan State Team that won it all, the early 90’s Duke team (it pains me to say that), the 1994 Arkansas team, the back-to-back Florida teams in 2006 and 2007.
