University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

Another Transfer from UK Hoops

It has been a week since Matthew Mitchell went on a media tour to defend his program after a variety of defections.  If you thought they were over, you thought wrong.

UK announced that Alexis Jennings will transfer from the program after two seasons.  The forward started in 18 games last season, averaging 10.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.

Including assistant coaches and decommitted recruits, Jennings is the 11th to leave the women’s basketball program.  There are only seven players remaining on next year’s roster: Makayla Epps, Maci Morris, Taylor Murray, Evelyn Akhator, Alyssa Rice, transfer Makenzie Cann and 2016 signee Chanin Scott.

Matthew Mitchell’s Statement:

“I talked last week about needing to give our players a clear path forward in our program and it saddens us that Alexis did not see a path for her at Kentucky,” Mitchell said. “She alerted me today that she felt it was in her best interest to finish her career elsewhere and we owe her that opportunity. I appreciate her hard work the past two years and hope she finds success.

“The turnover we have had has not been easy on our players and it’s critical that we give them some stability. Part of that is getting a quality staff in place and I am confident we are going to do that in the coming days. Our focus continues to be on the players in the locker room and the recruits that we are confident would make great Wildcats.”

Will the bleeding ever end?  Just when we thought it had stopped, it has started again.

It just might be time for Mitchell to go

I love UK and all of our programs but this is terrible and after MM pathetic statements last week it is definitely time to fire Mitchell.

The players are voting one at a time that he MUST be fired.

Indeed. And these are MM’s players, not like he waltzed into someone else’s recruits. If the people you convinced to come play for your program are overwhelmingly leaving, there is something terribly wrong. Cannot believe the lack of action from UK Athletics.

Mitchell has to be fired or the program is going to be set back for many years.

Agreed. It is time to fire Mitchell. I think it’s clear the players don’t want to play for him. Even if he gets what remains of the current roster stabilized he will be hard pressed to ever get another big time recruit to play here. Opposing coaches will just point to this season when they are recruiting against him.

I thought he was already fired? He had a good run here… Sorry it had to end like this. Best of luck to him and all the girls in the future. I still can’t believe they all left.. That has to be a first

This is beyond belief. There is little hope for next season at this point. Why would anyone want to stay? Who wants to waste their time now trying to compete in the SEC. The rest of our team must be ready to bolt and who could blame them. Mitchell let his ego ruin Kentucky Women’s Basketball program.
I am saddened by what has happened and disappointed in Mitchell and now Barnhart for letting it continue.

The only reason we have a program to ruin is because of Mitchell. Women’s basketball at UK was nothing and he built it into a program. At this point he should not be fired but an explanation of why should come from someone. This is not because he has done a poor job of building a quality staff which is what we keep hearing.

The reason we had a top program and MM is the winningest coach is the amount of resources that have been put into the program and rightly so (different topic). Barnhart has already indicated he has no desire to investigate his friend MM and there is “no systemic problem”….Barnhart said the other day and he said it in December 2015 — “no systemic problem” regarding MM’s program. Since Barnhart can’t see it, I call on UK to have a different department like HR within UK investigate the climate surrounding the defections, employment and severance of players and coaches within MM’s program. These guys are managing some pretty healthy budgets and have employees and student labor..they operate in a tax exempt environment …. and they are paid at the top levels in their field…. MM has claimed transparency — let’s see it…. Until then…. #UKHOOPSWHISPERS

WeareBBN: Just because you were in charge of building something doesn’t mean you have carte blanche to run it into the ground. The team belongs to the university, and the university belongs to the state, the alumni, and the fans. MM must go.

This program could have been a final four caliber team going into this season and even the next year. I dont know what the hell is going on with this program but staff issues do not cause this many players to leave. It’s ridiculous and a better explanation is owed.

If this were happening with the men’s team, Mitch would have already been called in for a special meeting with UK’s president and board. Probably make big national news as well. A complete explanation is called for.

Not that I care whether or not they have a women’s basketball team but my opinion is that the bleeding will not stop until the source of the wounds is eliminated. Apparently our “fearless” athletics director does not have the required set of guts to tackle the problem.

You really have to hope that the players/coaches left ONLY because Mitchell was an ahole towards them and that there is no major scandal looming. It’s so weird watching this after seeing him interact in a fun and playful way with his team at big blue madness every year.

I thought that like three players ago:(. My antenna went up however when he fired Coach House and Pillow … There was a good interview with House about Mitchell after he left saying Mitchell didn’t like hearing anything was wrong that he just wanted to be positive all the time. Looking back on the time frame, I guess that is when Mitchell was MIA with the team having family time. I still can’t believe a grown man would throw his baby “under the bus” to explain his lack if connection to his players:/ when he is paid compared to the top 8 people in his field….smh.

If you think anyone at KSR has the nuts to “investigate” then you are silly. Barnhart lovvvveesss Mitchell and won’t allow Matt or any of his comrades into their special seats or give them access. Matt will have to bring out the knee pads for forgiveness…again

We fired Billy G for doing a lot of the same, with the exception of winning. Makes you wonder how long he would have hung around if he won more games.
