I don’t think Cal was wanting Andrew to go up to #5 and just stomp his feet and run back out. Andrew looked like a chicken with his head cut off running around on this play.

Maybe if coach didn’t borderline abuse his players they’d be happier to play ball. They’re freshmen, and this isn’t boot camp, Cal. Let the kids play the game that they love.

I have one son and two daughters. At no point would I ever consider hitting or throwing them around to try to make a point or when they get confused in the heat of a sports moment. Did you see how nervous Andrew Harrison was before Cal pushed him in the back? I feel so bad for the kid.

I teach elementary school, and you are the worst parent in the world and should have your kids removed immediately. Cal was trying to get Harrison to go in the right direction. I push first graders harder than that. In all seriousness, you are doing serious damage to your kids, no joking. No one needs to be babied like you describe, and you can see how our country is going with parents like you raising kids.

Yep, Dirty. You are 100% correct. Cal is like a drill sergeant. He takes the best players in the nation and has them playing scared/frightened,..thinking (instead of reacting),…looking at the bench,….worried they are not doing what Cal wants. What does Cal want???? I can tell you what he does NOT want. He does NOT want steals!!!!! He does NOT want to use a zone defense (which beat our @ss tonight)!!!!! He does NOT want too many threes taken,..even if you are wide open!!! Then,…what does he want?He wants good body language!!! He wants diving and rolling around on the floor. He wants running the ball up the opposing players arse. “What if you turn it over doing that, Cal?” “No problem,..just run it wildly and don’t worry about turn overs!!!. ” He’s the worst coach I’ve ever seen. But he sure does get the best players!!!!

The “twins”, take your pick, have to be the most overhyped players to come out of last year’s high school class. I can’t think of any other Mickey D All-Americans who even come close this year. They’re tall for guards at the college level…that’s it!! Neither are very good at anything!!!

We’re 2/3 of the way into the season and our PG is still so out of touch with what he’s supposed to be doing that our coach has to physically shove him into position. This was the #1 PG coming out of HS.

Let this be a lesson to all of us: never, ever expect an incoming class of freshmen to be saviors.

    • nicholfree
      6:14 pm January 31, 2014 Permalink

Sometimes the preseason guard rankings just get it wrong. look at the ’14 mock NBA draft and at freshmen PG/SGs in 1st round. Zach Levine ranked #81 pre-season, now at UCLA? Tyler Ennis – ranked #37 – now at Syracuse? Wayne Selden – ranked #12 – Kansas? Semai Christon – at Xavier? Harrison twins seemed like a coup at time, but UK been better off with someone who knows how to run the DD-off, consistently has 3:1 (or even 2:1!) Asst/TOs ratio and knows how to distribute ball.

Poor Andrew. One of the toughest jobs in college basketball. He’ll get it. I mean isn’t that what everyone says after each game in which he plays well? And then when he doesnt-like tonight-we will all laugh at him and say how much he sucks? Classy. I’ll stay true blue and always root for my team no matter how bad any of them play.

    • RoseGarden

I wish Andrew could have a conversation with T.Jones. I think he got a little tough love from Cal and he survived. In fact he came out the better for the experience.

    11:55 pm January 28, 2014 Permalink

If they have an iota of sense, they’ll stick around for another year of college ball and really develop their mental self-control.

They remind me a lot of the way Archie played last year. Clearly a lot of talent that shines in certain instances, but on the whole a complete lack for how a team functions as a unit. Unfortunately (or fortunately, for Archie) the draft class was weak enough in 2013 for Goodwin to go late first round. The 2014 draft is pretty stacked so the twins have to grapple with going second round in which case there is no guaranteed money, which might lead them to stick around for another year.

Love Kentucky, and always will, but man this crap has to stop. Really what good is it to have the best class in the country if you play like freshman? We need to look very hard at investing in the future, players that will stay four years. Really think this is just a fad, and the NBA really has to change the rule. It’s ruining basketball.

Every player has a bad game and stop acting like it is the end of the world (even if it is). I don’t think any player every single game at his best at any level whether it is high school, college or the NBA. Same with Andrew. He is learning something, but he wasn’t there today. Let him learn something for today.

Does that define who he is? Probably not.

Will he get better? Wait till next game.

If the next game he is the best player, all the fans would all be all over him. That’s how simple most fans think.

About the draft, who cares about the draft?

He was standing around ball watching, Cal was trying to get him to move. It was not a malicious push in anyway. I doubt Andrew has any thoughts about that so much as what he can do to improve. I don’t agree that Cal should be on the court like that during a game but, as a UK fan I will turn the other way on that. The Harrison twins are very good but, they are still freshman. They haven’t progressed like some of our prior freshman under Cal and that is ok. They will be good sophmores for us too at this rate and that is great, happy to have them.

Unfortunately for Willie if he doesn’t get out of this funk, i see him going the route of Daniel Orton. Talented player drafted on potential and then buried in the D-League until he is eventually cut. Dakari should be starting after last night.

  40. bigbluedan
    11:10 am January 29, 2014 Permalink

Harrisons were able to get away with size, and raw skills in high school. College bball requires a little more than that. Andrew has no court vision, makes bad passes, doesn’t move off the ball and simply does non run hard. He is also SLOW and get destroyed by small scrappy guards like Hickey. Aaron has gotten better with hustle, passing.etc. He does not look as lost as his brother out there. Its like these guys dont understand anything other than running isolation and taking it to the hole.

Give me a PG with speed, handling and passing ability like Ulis. That kid understands how to get his teammates the ball effectively and does not have a huge ego.
