By now, you’ve surely heard the story of Kelly Melton, the young cancer patient from Pulaski County. Kelly is a huge UK fan, and has become friends with several UK basketball and football players through the #KickinIt4Kelly campaign, specifically Nerlens Noel, who has taken him to the Kentucky Derby the past two years. The two are so close that Nerlens told Kelly’s parents that he thinks of Kelly like a little brother.
WKYT’s Lee Howard caught up with Kelly recently to see how he’s doing, and although he just went through another round of chemo–he was waiting until after the Derby so he wouldn’t lose his hair until now–his spirits are still high. Unfortunately, Kelly’s first grade teacher, Mrs. Denny, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, causing the two to grow even closer as they both go through treatment.
Someone pass the Kleenex. Get well soon, you guys.
