Alexis Jennings is Transferring to South Carolina

Former UK Hoops forward Alexis Jennings is heading to Columbia, South Carolina to play for Matthew Mitchell’s rival, Dawn Staley.  Staley said in a press release:

“It’s a great day to be a Gamecock,” Staley said. “Alexis joining our Gamecock family brings us a proven, versatile player. Her ability to score with her back to the basket and stretch the floor with her 3-point shot makes us instantly better.”

It was bad news when we heard Batouly Camara was good enough to go to UConn, but this is much, MUCH worse.  South Carolina has arguably the best program in the SEC.  They also have a coach that is easy to hate.  If you’ve ever been to one of their matchups at Memorial, it’s easy to tell there is no love lost for Staley and her team.  Even though Hayley and Wilder are no longer our beat writers, they will still go out of their way to talk trash about Dawn.

You want to wish Jennings well, but that will not be the case when the Cats take on the Cocks.

What has Matthew Mitchell done? One player transfers to the best program in the nation, the other the best program in the SEC right now. Ugggh

And Nero continues to play while the city burns.

Not understand the comments above. These two players had both already left UK, now one is at UConn and the other is at SC. To me, this makes more sense as to why they left UK. Perhaps they had been working on becoming a member of these teams prior to actually leaving UK. If so, this takes some of the mystery out of “what did Matthew do.” They saw an opportunity to play for the 2 best teams in women’s basketball and took it, rather than try to keep building UK up to where these programs are. Maybe, just maybe that’s why they left, instead of some conspiracy theory that coach must have done something to wrong them.

So, Booby, are you insinuating that there was nothing wrong with the women’s team and the problems are only caused by South Carolina and UConn trolling for our players?

Yes, I can perhaps understand why a player would want to play for a top program after leaving UK, but if UK women’s BB had truly turned a corner to be a contender, you hang on to players like Jennings.

I’ve read in the past that Mitchell was the ‘bad cop’ and the loss of ‘good cop’ assistants led to the demise of the girls bball team. Mitchell is apparently a vicious bad cop.

Mitchell was nice enough to allow transfers without even restrictions for teams UK will play next season, I see. That’s unusual.

Nice enough? I don’t think he needed any more bad press. Blocking a transfer would lead to national press coverage. So far it’s flown under the radar nationally.

Why is the clown till coaching at UK

Why? Because he built the UK Women’s BB program into a nationally ranked program from little more than an afterthought when he took over. He has taken them to unprecedented levels of success, so he gets a bit of a pass over someone without those accomplishments. That being said, his seat is quit a bit warmer than it was a couple of years ago, so he is going to have to scramble over the next couple of seasons to right the ship, or he may indeed be gone.

Jennings should have been restricted from going to South Carolina. Matthew has drove the program into the ground. Can you believe he still has his job? You can think Mitch!

And why do we have to always “wish them well”. She QUIT on us so I can care less what happens to her. I don’t want her injured but I don’t want to see her succeed. This entire situation is strange, most players and recruits leave. several assistants leave, yet other assistants come in that worked/played here before. If MM is a “bad cop” why would these former players/coaches come back? I really hope MM gets things fixed, was great to see the ladies play and love the style we play. Was finally getting some of the inside presence we needed and now we start over.
