Abbey Cheek’s pro career is off to a fast start. Last night, the former Kentucky slugger was named the 2019 National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) Rookie of the Year at the league’s awards ceremony in Rosemont, Illinois. She also took home the batting title after leading the league with a .378 average, which helped the Chicago Bandits win the regular season title.

“I’m really excited for Abbey that she was named the NPF Rookie of the Year,” Kentucky Softball head coach Rachel Lawson said in a press release. “I was really happy to see that Abbey took all the hard work she put in during her time at Kentucky and applied them to the NPF. She had a stellar senior year and was able to carry that momentum into the summer. We are all very proud of her here at UK.”

In her final year at Kentucky, Cheek was named 2019 National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association National Player of the Year, SEC Player of the Year, and First Team NFCA All-American. She was drafted 14th overall by the Bandits back in April. They face the USSSA Pride in the NPF Championship this weekend.

Hopefully. It seems like she’d be a shoe-in.
