In what has truly evolved into a wild and crazy week in the world of college sports, Aaron drops a bonus episode of the Aaron Torres Podcast. He gives you an update on how college football players, fans and coaches fought back against the Big Ten, and might have saved the season in the process. Then he is joined by UCLA head basketball coach Mick Cronin. Here is a rundown of today’s show:
The Big Ten is forced to backpedal: Aaron opens the show by discussing a wild day in college football, where college football players, coaches and fans pushed back against the Big Ten’s attempts to cancel the season (5:30). He explains how it all started with players, but how when coaches like Jim Harbaugh and Ryan Day stepped up, it really changed the narrative of the conversation (12:30) and put the pressure on the school presidents. He also explains how you as a fan can make a difference, and why as good as Monday was, it’s impossible to know what will happen going forward.
UCLA head coach Mick Cronin joins the show: In addition to the football talk, Aaron is joined by a very special guest: UCLA head coach Mick Cronin (35:00). Cronin discusses how he has passed the time during quarantine, how he found out that leading scorer Chris Smith would return, and why he has high hopes for his 2021 team. The guys also explain black market haircuts and why its time for UCLA’s players to return to campus. Note: This interview was recorded late last week, before the craziness in college sports of the last few days.
