Sports is roaring on and with it, is a new addition of the Aaron Torres Podcast. Aaron discusses the good and bad of the NBA’s return, and why Mike Miller’s decision to leave Memphis leaves Penny Hardaway at a crossroads. Then he welcomes on well-known college hoops assistant David Grace (formerly of UCLA, Cal and Vanderbilt) to give you the dirt on how college basketball goes down behind the scenes. Here is a rundown of today’s show:
NBA is back and Mike Miller: Aaron opens the show by discussing the NBA’s return. While he is fired up to have NBA basketball back, he talks about the difficulties of playing into October. Then he discusses Mike Miller’s departure from Memphis, and why, after losing one of the best recruiters in the country, Penny Hardaway is at a crossroads at Memphis.
Famed assistant coach David Grace joins the show: Aaron is joined by his friend David Grace to give you a different perspective on college basketball — that of an assistant coach. Grace, who has coached at Oregon State, UCLA, Cal and Vandy discusses recruiting at a blue blood vs. non-power school, how often assistants fight with their head coaches over recruits, and just how bad tampering really is bad in college hoops. He also shares some fun recruiting stories, including offering Lonzo Ball in eighth grade, which eventually landed him at UCLA.
