If you’re within 25 miles of Lexington, you can probably see the massive black billow of smoke filling the sky. The Lexington Fire Department is responding to a three-alarm fire at the Blue Grass Stock Yards near Leestown and Forbes Road.
The cause of the fire is unknown. The fire department is working to contain it, but their task is a tall one. You can watch the scene live from the @LexKYFire Periscope.
UPDATE: There are no injuries reported from the fire at the stockyards, according to city spokeswoman Susan Straub.

UPDATE(3:45): Lexington Fire officials have informed reporters that as the fire spreads, they may need to setup shelters for nearby residents. They’re also advising people to avoid the area.
UPDATE (4:15): According to the chief operating officer, Jim Akers, all employees were accounted for but they lost 20 cattle in the blaze, he told the Herald-Leader. On his way to the iHeart radio station, Matt Jones said that power and cell service has been knocked out along Nicholasville Road.
