A Recruit Became “Starstruck” When Cal Watched Him Play

Bryan Antoine has played plenty of games in front of college coaches.  It was nothing new to see the stands filled with them at last night’s Under Armor semifinals.  But something was different this time for the class of 2019 guard and former middle school phenom — Coach Cal was there.

“I’m going to be honest with you,” Antoine told ZagsBlog. “Whenever any coach comes up and watches our game I’m usually pretty chill. But when Coach Cal came up, not going to lie, Jalen Gaffney and I saw him come up to watch us, that was the first time I’ve ever been starstruck by a coach.”

Luckily, Calipari’s presence didn’t prevent him from having a good game, scoring 22 points to advance to today’s finals.

Antoine’s teammate, fellow swingman Scottie Lewis, is another recruit catching Calipari’s eye in the early stages of the recruitment process.  They will only be sophomores next season, but these kids can ball.

I love how they know to run and gun. In basketball, we understand that defense is #1 because it creates offense. And the first rule of offense is to score on fast breaks. These kids know that – and how to execute; very cool to see.
