    I’d be okay for a pre-season tournament!

It’s a bad idea, but I wouldn’t go so far to say worst idea ever. I mean, I think “let’s hire hookers to entertain recruits” is a worse idea.

Speaking of which, has there ever been a scandal (college or High School) as big as U of L’s that the Coach and AD didnt lose their jobs?

BP, the whole winners bracket and losers bracket playing at the same time like it’s an AAU event thing is a little kooky. But that’s part of what makes Cal so great, he keeps people talking.

DS, I think the UNC scandal is worse and more egregious in its’ lack of consequences.

I think Cal purposely trots out an insane idea to illustrate how full of sh!t the NCAA selection committee has been lately. He is basically trying to make the point that the results of the tourney have no meaning, and no matter what they are going to try to screw UK.

Oh it’s a total hot mess of an idea. But yeah, Cal probably does just throw this stuff out there to mock the NCAA’s selection committee. I mean if you don’t take the tournament into consideration, why bother with it at the end of the year? and why bother making it a serious event? let’s just throw multiple teams out there at the same time and have a blast! lol Cal is a mad genius.

I just thought it was another of Cal’s marketing ploys. It’s the beginning of June and everyone is talking about Cal, UK, and the SEC Tournament.

jdub, exactly. he doesn’t really think this will happen, but everyone is talking about it right? so it worked.

What a nut, to think you need to tattle to protect the sanctity of a political circus.

Cal’s idea about the SEC tourney has nothing to do with SEC and everything to do with the NCAA Selection Committee. Although we usually have a #1 seed wrapped up, the years where we could have improved our seeding based on SEC tourney results have had little to no effect on our seeding. Cal is saying it doesn’t matter when the conference tourney is held because it has no influence either way. He doesn’t really want play it early in the year and is just trying to get a point across to the Selection Committee.

1.Love the idea of a early tourney! It is not stupid. It’s inclusion. More fans (UK) can attend than in Nashville. Not everyone loves the idea of the SEC tourney based in Nashville. Two games at once – yay! I watched Cal on Finebaum. While Cal is marketing UK this idea is truly a poke at the NCAA selection committee. Is it going to happen – no. Why SEC coaches & AD’s = Flat Earth Society.
    2. The person who called the DNC is someone with connections because you got a phone call. That should narrow the pool.
    3. Matt you need a vacation. Go rest.

You rarely see kids wearing the “horse harness” anymore, but I had to suffer through a year of wearing that thing when I had braces as a kid. For those of you unfamiliar with it, it is the thing that the dentist’s niece Darla was wearing in “Finding Nemo”.

Now imagine getting hit in the mouth with a basketball while wearing that thing. 🙂

I think Cal’s idea is terrible but I think it would be smart to switch up the SEC tournament. What about this idea: Move up the tournament a week. I dont believe any big conference has their tourney that week so we’d get all the prime TV slots. The SEC could sell it as caring more about students because it limits the number of consecutive weeks on the road. That would also give our guys a week more of straight practice which around Christmas when we do that is usually when they seem to improve the most. Also, the result would matter too.

    • I don’t have a problem with trying to be creative and shake things up, especially since the SEC tourney doesn’t get near the run that the ACC, etc. get, but I disagree. If we move it up a week we would be holding it at the same time as the glorified DII conferences and it would look bad for marketing. We would be announcing to the whole world that we acknowledge that the SEC is a 2nd rate bball league (except UK).

I believe they should just move it up a day and play the ‘ship on Saturday and be done with it.

Now, what I DO like about Cal’s idea is the multiple courts. That would be awesome and would attract some viewers, if only for 15 minutes.

Having the sec tournament ion November is silly, but in late january or early feburary actually isn’t terrible. We could have a committee determine the seeds since there won’t have been many head to head matchups at that point. and just play it then. Like NorthernKYCatfan said, there won’t be any other tournaments going on. The SEC would get quite a few eyeballs that week. and as has been mentioned several times, if it doesn’t matter in March, who cares why or when it gets moved? The only question left would be who gets the automatic bid? the winner of that tournament or the regular season champion?

    • Realme
      11:08 am June 2, 2016 Permalink

So do it between the end of the non-conference and the beginning of conference play. Then everyone wants to take out the champion in games to follow.

    • ukjaybrat

like its any different? everyone wants to take us out already 😀

    • Realme
      11:13 am June 2, 2016 Permalink

True. But if we don’t win, it would motivate the other teams to play well against someone besides us.

    • As I mentioned above in reply to NorthernKYCatFan:

Yeah but the problem with that would be officiating. you can’t determine a whistle blow on one court from another. Imagine the conspiracy theories that would happen because of a phantom whistle on one court that stops play on another court giving a free timeout to a team that then wins the game… or any other possible scenario that could happen really.

Oklahoma is probably one. They had Blake Griffin in basketball, and I’m assuming they’ve had someone in football at some point.
