A Few Notes from the Sweet 16

Good afternoon, Cayts fans. I’m here in Rupp Arena for the first session of the 2014 Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Sweet 16 Boys’ State Tournament and the fans here in attendance are pumped for some state tourney action. I’m just getting settled in here at my first trip to the tourney since 2001, but I have a couple notes for you after the first two hours of the day…
— The Hopkinsville Tigers just eliminated South Oldham in the first game of the tournament, 83-62. Tra Edwards scored 30 points to lead Hoptown to victory. I won’t pretend to know a ton about the tournament field, but after watching Hopkinsville, I can’t imagine too many teams being much better. They’re loaded with talent and athleticism; just ask my Madisonville Maroons, who lost by 32 to the Tigers in the 2nd Region tournament. I’m still bitter about that, and yes, Madisonville has the better Ferrell’s.
— I saw Scott Padgett wandering around the concourse area in his Samford Bulldogs sweats and he is getting mobbed for pictures by fans. Other celebrities in the building this afternoon include Joe B. Hall, former Paintsville star J.R. Van Hoose, Twitter superstar Lonny Demaree, and Les Johns of KSR live blog fame.
— We have a Louisville fan in the house, wearing the Louisville fan uniform:

See you in Indianapolis next weekend, sir.
— The line for Rupp Arena ice cream is ridiculous. High school kids everywhere, fighting to get a cone. That place must make a fortune.
— Up next is Trinity vs. Owensboro in the second game of the day. Trinity features junior forward Ray Spalding, a player that’s gaining interest from Kentucky. Ranked No. 88 in the country and No. 1 in Kentucky according to 247Sports, Spalding has an offer from Indiana, heavy interest from Louisville, and was paid a visit last week from UK assistant Orlando Antigua. I’ll be keeping eyes on him in this one.
— Go Campbell County Camels tonight!

Many of you may have already seen this, but if not, check it out. It’s a very interesting piece on (a) how UofL got screwed with their seed, (b) how UK really got screwed with their seed and (c) how both of those screw jobs will ulimately screw WSU!
http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/tournament/2014/story/_/id/10627803/why-louisville-kentucky-seeded-too-low-why-matters
Very interesting. I could possibly see UofL as a one seed. Virginia got whooped by Tennessee. A four seed is a stretch for us, but I’d take it. I really thought we were a 5, 6 tops. I don’t see why anyone is surprised the NCAA has screwed the pooch with this. It’s pathetic. They are a complete joke.
With that said, we are gonna win Friday, give WSU the shocker, and then we are all gonna go party in Indy and watch these Cats smack Little Brother around!! Go CATS!
Go camels! Glad you are rooting for us!
Go Camels!
I think he meant Colonels*
Go Camels! We live in Cold Spring. I taught for Campbell County last year. My wife went there. My mom’s side of the family went there, excited to see them do well.
Drew after all of the Madisonville vs Alexandria competitions over the years I am glad you have finally come to the good side! GO CAMELS
The Madisonville Ferrell’s is better?!?! The Madisonville Ferrell’s is better?!?! BWAHAHAHAHAAA
Well, he’s right.
Don’t they know where that ice cream comes from?
Should be plenty of it with this year’s team.
Drew/Matt/Tyler–Spring game tickets went on sale to the public today… and we’ve got a story about bill walker pissing in a fuggin towel and a story on how good RUPPs ice cream is and how ghetto loserville fans are (things we already know). I get that it’s tourney time and all, but COME ON its never to early to get #PackCWS going for April 26th.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
There’s only one Ferrell’s and its on the corner in Hopkinsville. Been there since beginning of time and best burgers hands down. Legendary!
Obviously you’ve never been to Princeton and had a Heaton’s burger. Blows Ferrell’s slick off the map!
Typical Louisville fan.
Also, is Campbell county’s mascot really a camel? Lol
Yes it’s really a Camel…lol
Hey, Louisville1Cal5. Guess what day it is…Guess what day it is!
WOO! WOO!
…. It’s hump day.
Go check out a Regional Bracket Breakdown at http://www.masondixonlineofscrimmage.wordpress.com
Is the criminal Richie Farmer there? Remove his name from the rafters!
How is Cayts supposed to be pronounced? “Cayuts” or “Cates” (see Phoebe)? If it’s the latter, whose the idiot that came up with it?
Anybody who uses that word in a serious tone is an idiot. I’m guessing it’s just some way for the uppity writers here to mock UK fans with an accent.
GO CAMELS
Drew…just stop…the Hoptown Ferrell’s is 10x better…Mrs Ferrell sits in ours everyday herself…its the ORIGINAL Ferrell’s for goodness sake
Easy there coach cal, Red’s not walking thru that door! Ha but I agree with you, it is the bast!
For the record, Campbell County is only here because they got such an easy draw at region, while Bishop Brossart, who actually beat the Camels in the regular season handily, got stuck with the favorite Montgomery County in the first game. If Brossart had won the District title game, it’d bea completely different story.
TLDR: Campbell County sucks
Does Brossart still recruit? Just curious.
Is it just me or does the dude in the pic with the UL fan look a lot like Luke Kennard?
Looks like him because it IS HIM…check out his pic on the KSR article about him being Mr. Ohio Basketball.
So sorry Brossart! If you would not have lost to us in the district championship, it might be different.
GO CAMELS!
The burgers at Heaton’s in Princeton are the ticket!
Awesome. That’s me in the picture. I love my cards. Drew, if you would have asked I would have turned and smiled.
You guys have no idea. I now lived in Madisonville for two years. The Ferrell’s of Hoptown and Madisonville are mediocre at best. Now the Cadiz Ferrell’s… that place is fantastic. Blows them both away.
Joke of the year
Wow, can’t believe that UofL fan really went in public looking like that. Sadly, he probably thinks he’s pulled one over on everyone by wearing that into Rupp.
Nice tat and cut off shirt. You couldn’t scream “The Ville” fan any louder if you tried.
That’s his formal wear. He wears that to weddings, funerals and bar mitzvahs. First class all the way.
LOL…maybe he should have a tat on his neck like Cauley Stein….
My husband and I started Ferrell’s in 1929 in Hopkinsville and I still sit in the back and handle the money every day. We opened the other locations for some extra cash flow, but those burgers all taste like rat turds compared to the original. You can suck it Drew Franklin. I aint got time for haters….I gots some more burgers to grill homey.
Camel alum……………Go Camels!! rollcall!
Drew, give it up for the Golden Eagles!
