A breakdown of the SEC Network’s UK graphic

Yesterday, the SEC Network opened its doors to the media in Charlotte, and among the various bells and whistles they unveiled were each school’s graphics packages. Here’s Kentucky’s main graphic, which is pretty cool. Let’s break it down:

  • The eight National Championship trophies, of course (hope they saved the working file to add #9)
  • Props for using the “Big Blue Nation” slogan and C-A-T-S chant. I realize “On! On!” is the beginning to our fight song, but meh.
  • Love the three goggle, even if someone in the comments section will point out that KENTUCKY DIDN’T START THAT!
  • Nice use of Memorial Hall in the background
  • Bobby Knight’s not happy about that graduation cap
  • Between the Adolph Rupp playing card, Cawood’s Court, the trophies, and the three goggle, this graphic is obviously basketball centric. Thankfully, there’s a UK football helmet and generic football to remind the rest of the league UK has a football team.
  • I don’t get the trumpet.

You can see the animation here. It autoplays, so I’m doing you a favor by linking it, promise.

Things I would add:

  • All of the Cal gifs. Just all of them. They could even make up the entire background of the picture for all I care.
  • A cartoon Angry Stoops prowling back and forth
  • A giant Matt Elam with his elbow on the UK logo
  • Mitch Barnhart’s sweater vests
  • Dancing Guy sliding down the diagonal of the K
  • Audio of the Air Raid siren

Honestly, I’m shocked there isn’t a horse in there. That’s like televising a sporting event in Nashville and not showing a guitar.

Yeah Kentucky didn’t start 3 goggles.

No, UK didn’t start college basketball either and like the 3 goggles, just perfected it!

UK did start the single-handed 3-goggle. The original Portland Trailblazer version was two-handed.

Is it just that time of day – or do the trophies/football helmet in a box combo look like a football themed 6 pack of beer?

Ok Can anyone tell me if the SEC network will be available with all Directv subscribers? Been looking and yet has found no real answers? I would greatly appreciate it, thanks

The SEC (or SEX in Matt’s case) Network will be free for all Directv subscribers with the “Choice” package or higher if they live in the SEC footprint. If not, you will have to pay additional to receive it. Channel number is 611.

Just called Direct TV my bills is going up about $10.00 per month for 1 channel. I will pay about $75.00 per month for espn, 2, U, fox1 and SEC Network with local channels. I think I am close to just listening to the radio. But I get the Big 10 with my current deal but have to pay extra for SEC. I could careless about the Big Ten.

Why are the letters UK in Carolina blue? That’s the first thing I noticed.

Maybe they were attempting to make KY Blue ‘neon’? That was my thought when I looked at it!

      EXACTLY!!!! They better change that!!!!!

It’s suppose to be a neon sign. Rendering programs don’t do florescent royal blue very well. Why must people find every little negative about thing? Just enjoy it, and trust a graphic designer, a darker blue would look awful.

Note that the trumpet is pointing straight up. That is the international musician’s signal for “the band is really bad.”

That’s because of the band that plays “My Old KY Home” at the KY Derby.

Don’t we have about 20+ national cheerleading championships. I agree with a horse in the background, but a little love to the school’s most successful program I would think would be in order as well. On a lighter note, a dead cardinal on the ground nearby would work too, and maybe a nice backyard basketball court (paved using gub’mint money).

Does anybody know the Comcast channel number in Nashville for the SEC network?

Looks great! I would assume the trumpet is for “Call to Post”. A little horse racing shout out. I would have replaced it with a bottle of bourbon.

I would add BEAR BRYANT to the graphic. He is still our most successful football coach.

Is there any significance to the C-A-T-S plane flying out of the stormy clouds and into the bright skies?
