The 2020 UK Softball team was on its way to making history on the field before the coronavirus pandemic canceled the season, but they still managed to make history off of it.
Four student-athletes – Grace Baalman, Alex Martens, Mallory Peyton, and Bailey Vick – were all named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team on Friday, marking the first time in program history that four ladies from the same team made the cut.

These four individuals will now be placed into the final round of voting for the All-American Team roster, which will be officially announced in June. As a team, UK Softball posted a collective 3.787 GPA for the 2020 spring semester.
Martens and Vick recently elected to forgo their extra year of eligibility while Baalman and Peyton are set to return to next season’s team. Martens was tabbed as the third-best player in the country and Vick was second in the NCAA in batting average. Baalman will come back as one of the team’s top pitchers while Peyton is an elite power hitter who drilled the second-most home runs in the NCAA before the season was canceled.
