One of the top prospects in the Bluegrass state has the hometown Wildcats among his favorite potential college choices.
Dane Key, a four-star wide-receiver out of the class of 2022, hails from Frederick Douglass High School in Lexington, KY and he released his top 10 list of colleges earlier on Sunday. Kentucky was included in the bunch, along with Arkansas, Virginia Tech, Purdue, Wisconsin, Oregon, South Carolina, Mississippi State, Virginia, and Michigan State.
Freddie Maggard had the opportunity to speak with Key about his recruitment and the ‘Cats, which you can check out here.

Key is listed at 6-2, 170-pounds and ranks as the N0. 2 overall player in Kentucky, according to 247 Sports, and a top 250 recruit across the nation. His father, Donte Key, was able to join KSR back in January and had this to say:
“I’ve had a chance to talk to the coaching staff over there and we had a really good conversation and I respect what they’ve done and the type of players that they’re getting,” Key told KSR. “So I’ll tell you that Kentucky is on the list.”
At the end of the day, the four-star standout will take his time and sign with the program he deems the best fit both on and off the field.
“At this time he is just weighing all the options that he has, he has some really good schools, Kentucky is one of those… He’s got really good options and we need to see where the best fit for him is,” Key told KSR. “Sometimes you see these kids in the transfer portal, which I hate. I taught both my boys, where you’re at, you’re going to be at, and that’s why we’re going to take our time and make a decision on where he’s going to go.”
