One of the best players in all of Michigan is down to five schools and the Wildcats are in the mix.
On Wednesday afternoon, Deone Walker, a three-star lineman prospect from the class of 2022, announced on Twitter that he’s considering just five schools for his future college home: Michigan, Missouri, Georgia, Arizona State, and Kentucky. The 6-foot-7, 320-pound Walker plays his high school football up at Cass Technical in Detroit, Michigan, the same school that current Kentucky linebacker DeAndre Square attended.
Walker received an offer from Kentucky back in January.

Walker has been on the Kentucky coaching staff’s radar for some time now, but it’s hard to say that losing assistant coach Steve Clinkscale to Michigan hasn’t played a significant role in his recruitment. In fact, Walker has received eight Crystal Ball projections since mid-June in favor of him landing with the Wolverines. Clinkscale, who left for Michigan in May, had been one of the leaders in Walker’s recruitment to Lexington, but Kentucky’s offensive line coach Eric Wolford was forced to take over following Clink’s departure.
“Really Coach [Steve] Clink[scale] and Coach [Eric] Wolford. They pushed it on me so much,” Walker told KSR back in April regarding UK. “They showed that they have a loving system and that they really care for me and that if I do go out of state to them, they’re going to make sure I’m safe, I’m kept right, and I’m well.”
It would appear that Clink picked up with Walker right where he left off when transitioning to Michigan.
Rated by 247 Sports as the 365th best player from his class, Walker was being recruited to play both offensive or defensive line by different programs. Kentucky was interested in adding him to the future of the Big Blue Wall on the offensive side of the ball but would have also accepted him on the defensive line.
Unfortunately, it’s becoming clear that Walker will eventually follow Clinkscale to Michigan, too, unless Wolford can make a major move in the near future.
