247Sports.com’s final Top247 for the 2014 class is out

Lost in all the pre-Arkansas excitement yesterday was the release of 247Sports’ final Top247 for the 2014 football recruiting class. The last edition of the recruiting rankings came out Tuesday afternoon and only one Wildcat, Drew Barker, made the list.

Barker, the ninth-ranked pro style quarterback, moved up four spots to No. 109, while UK target Matt Elam saw a drop in his ranking. The John Hardin defensive tackle fell 12 spots from No. 9 overall to No. 21, and down one spot in the position rankings to the third best defensive tackle in the class.

Elam is scheduled to take his official visit to Alabama this weekend. Barker is already on campus.

Cats.

Well, there’s a bucket of ice cold water on our highly ranked recruiting class……Only 1 player out of that many players? This does not bode well for Kentucky.

You do realize how foolish a statement that is? 247 players out of who knows how many prospects are out there is a very select group when you look at it. I hope I am not in the minority here, or we will just have another case of our basketball-spoiled fans not being able to understand that other sports cannot change overnight.

It’s not a foolish statement. Alabama has 18 of their 24 commits on that list. Ohio State has 17 of their 21 commits on that list. You know that saying, “if you want to run with the big dogs, you can’t stay on the porch and pee like a puppy”. If UK wants to talk about turning the program around and consistently competing in the SEC or even a national level, recruiting classes like this aren’t going to get it done.

Gonna be 19 of 25 for Alabama when Marlon Humphrey commits to Alabama.

Good for Drew. If Elam had made a decision to choose Bama or UK he could have enrolled early and been in a good conditioning program and have a chance to play. Now he looks more likely to redshirt.

Matt Elam couldn’t have enrolled early unless he graduated early. I have no idea what you’re talking about, Elam was always going to be a Fall enrollee.

Here’s the difference between UK football and UK basketball. In football, we get all excited about having the 109th best football recruit in the country and think he is the best thing since sliced bread. In basketball, the 109th best basketball recruit in the country would never even get an offer from UK.

Here is the problem with that logic….their are what, approximately 4 commits for each team each year right? There are 20-30 for a football team every year. The 109th rated recruit in football is probably about as equivalent as the 15th rated basketball recruit. The 109th basketball recruit is someone ranked around 800-1200 probably.

247 has 1 guy and Rivals has 5 of our guys in top 250.

247 is a good website, but it ain’t Rivals. I find the rating discrepancy on Matt Elam to be glaring. Why does 247 rate him so high when others do not. Did he workout at a 247 event? Do you know Chris Fisher?

If you look at the 2012, 2013, and 2014 average score for the entire class….it has been on the rise with 2014 being the highest. Its a process–its not overnight. Steve F–dude not ragging on you but duh–UK BB is one of the greatest programs in history. Obviously there is no comparison. and as far not getting it done nationally–randall cobb………wesley woodyard…….danny trevathan…….all those dudes were 2-3 star guys and are doing pretty well for themselves. Its about building things up……Rome wasn’t built in a day. Brighter days are ahead…….

I think 247 is the best recruiting rating service there is. I think Rivals has slipped somewhat, E(sec)pn is absolutely delusional.

The problem is that KSR wants to pick and choose what data they use. They will use 247 stats on Elam because they have him as a 5-star, but Rivals has him at a 3-star. KSR then uses Rivals team ranking because they have UK listed around 15, while 247 lists the team around 25.

Whatever makes it easier for KSR to spin.
