I am pumped up for 24 hours of Ryan Lemond Radio! I think it would be awesome if he started at noon during a weekday, and start with Rush Limbaugh theme music and some sort of poltical rant from Ryan. The phones would light up with people angery at Ryan! It would be radio gold!

    The Remaining Big Questions:

How many Hours will KY Joe be a part of the Ryan Lemond Show?
Will Ryan be wearing the 70s era UK “Shorty” Shorts during the broadcast?
Will any of the 24 hours be recorded along the highway between WADDY & LEXINGTON?
How many gallons of Milk will Ryan have to chug during this 24 hour period on AIR?

All that matters is how did Matt know to pick the 17 horse in his Trifecta box and did Miley Cyrus get in a fight with Ron Jeremy at Trixie’s (although only Drew Franklin can likely answer that)?

  10. Wikipedia
    10:08 am May 5, 2014 Permalink

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for “fifth of May”) is a celebration held on May 5. It is celebrated in the United States and in Mexico, primarily in the state of Puebla where the holiday is called El Día de la Batalla de Puebla (English: The Day of the Battle of Puebla).

It originated with Mexican-American communities in the American West as a way to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War, and today the date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. In the state of Puebla, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín. Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s Independence Day–the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico–which is celebrated on September 16.

If you think Matt’s Derby win was impressive you clearly don’t understand math or probability. He picked 6 horses for a trifecta box. That means he had 120 different orders of finishes he could win on or 120 different ways of winning. Also it means that there were 20 different combinations of the top 3 horses he could win on, which means he had 20 different trifecta boxes. He increased his chances of winning by 20 fold.

What’s wrong with picking 6 horses for 3 spots in a 19 horse field? That’s only logical considering the probability of a massive payout. I consider myself a decent horseplayer, but I’m left kicking my own butt because I tried too much to beat Chrome and didn’t work enough with the realization that he was going to win and thus setting up my exotics around him. Winning the Derby trifecta two years in a row is quite an accomplishment and one that I respect greatly. Matt shows an ability to make common sense wagers while sniffing out some of the live longshots. Great job bud!

    • Shawon
      10:34 am May 5, 2014 Permalink

I like the 6 horse Trifecta box bet but I would not have had Commanding Chrome in my Trifecta in a thousand years. Wonder why Matt had that particular horse in his?

    • last year listener
      10:44 am May 5, 2014 Permalink

He only hit the exacta last year. It only made a 6 horse tri pay off by having a long shot come in the top 3. If you take out commanding curve he only would have won like 50 maybe 100. Last years tri paid 3,400 because it had an even bigger long shot.

    • Delk for 3
      11:01 am May 5, 2014 Permalink

I know all about why the payoff was what it was. The bet is made though with the knowledge that usually the Derby includes a longshot in the tri. Matt picked the correct longshot and it paid off. Even if it didn’t come in, Matt would have got all of his money back even with the the tri of Chrome, Danza, Wicked Strong.

    • Delk for 3
      11:04 am May 5, 2014 Permalink

A 6-horse tri box in the Derby will almost always return all of your money and will more than likely return your money anywhere from 10 fold to 100 fold. If you don’t think a 6 horse tri in the Derby isn’t reasonable you just don’t understand the game very well.

    • numbers
      11:11 am May 5, 2014 Permalink

^he essentially made 20 different trifecta box bets. So no I don’t think its impressive when someone brags about winning the derby when they made 20 different bets. I’m impressed by the people that made 1 bet and got it right or 5 bets at the most. 20 is a little overboard. Now it’s nice to win and good to win that no doubt, but not something to brag about because its a little overboard to make 20 bets.

Matt’s bet is impressive no matter how much someone denies and hates on it. You obviously know little about good handicapping and wagering. When betting a trifecta in such large field, you must make a financial stand to offset the tremendous odds against winning. In a 19 horse field, there are 5,814 trifecta outcome possibilities. A 6 horse trifecta box of 120 bucks is a wager that makes sense in such a race with a huge field, and with a history of trifecta payouts in the thousands and even the tens of thousands. Acting like Matt didn’t make a great bet because he used multiple horses is just flat-out ignorant.

    • Facts

When you pick 6 horses you don’t get to act like your a genius and picked the winner. It just means you have more money to risk because he has more money then common folk. Its smart for him since he has the money to lose, but I’m more impressed by the people that actually picked the winner and only those 3 horses as their bet not picking 6. Kind of weird me makes that bet that only well off people can make but complains about $300 donation for rupp arena. suck up a little more.

Sounds like you really just don’t like the show. It’s an interesting topic of debate no matter how many times it’s brought up.

    Matt / Ryan ,

I would be glad to volunteer for a spot on the 24 hour show with Ryan . I’ve got plenty more stories like the Bill Keightley – moonshine story I told you last time we all three had lunch together . However , if you can squeeze me in i’ll suggest it be between midnight – 6:00 a.m.

Having worked along side Coach Hall – Sutton – Pitino for 26 years helping run their summer camps I’ve accumulated some special moments that I’ve used over the years at speaking engagements .

If you can’t squeeze me in I understand but I may drop by and bring everyone in studios some of those midnight. White Castles .

  75. Part of me kind of likes the trash talking from Brown, but running smack when we’ve been as bad as we’ve been the last 2 years is sorta like Bill Self saying “We didn’t lose, we just ran out of time.” Pretty meaningless until we beat them.

Its pretty simple actually. He got lucky nothing more. Maybe a little thinking. He picked one of the long shots to make $120 bet pay off. So 17 he liked the best out of the longshots and got lucky it hit.

Yeah i was brilliant too for picking Commanding Curve !! Here was how i came up with it , its complicated and very technical ..The horse had a West Point connection My brother went to West Point!! End of story !! Dont like to poke fun but i think u are really over-evaluating the pick !!

“Over-evaluating the pick” because I asked why he picked it? Whether you think so or not, the fact is that some people try to handicap and they have reasons for making their wagers. Matt’s being modest, but he had some reason for picking that horse and his reasoning was correct. I guess you think people that win the National Handicapping Championship win because they just happened to draw names out of the hat during the tournament?
