As expected, Moussa Cisse is headed to Memphis.
The 2020 five-star center shared the news with ESPN this afternoon, picking Penny Hardaway’s Tigers over Kentucky, Florida State, Georgetown, Georgia, and LSU. The 6’10” 220 lbs. native of Guinea has been playing high school ball for Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis since last year and reclassified from 2021 to 2020 in late May.
LSU was once considered the frontrunner, but with the NCAA handing down numerous Notices of Allegations and punishments following college basketball’s recent pay-for-play scandal, the momentum shifted to Memphis. Although listed as one of his finalists, Kentucky hasn’t been viewed as a major contender for months.
“Coach Penny Hardaway is a legend and can help me develop my game and take it to the next level,” Cisse told ESPN. “He has a lot of influence in the league. I’ve been in Memphis for a year now and everyone is telling me to stay. With all this stuff we’re facing with the pandemic, I didn’t get to go visit any other schools except Florida State. I’m getting a lot of love from the fans.”
Best of luck to him.
