John Calipari is not finished recruiting point guards in the 2019 recruiting class. He already has commitments from Tyrese Maxey and Ashton Hagans (who will likely reclassify to 2018). Now an Alabama point guard has entered Calipari’s crosshairs.
Kira Lewis is rising star in the 2019 class. Lewis began the summer season as a four-star prospect just outside the Top 100. After a few weeks on the EYBL, he soared to No. 24 overall and is now considered the fourth-ranked point guard in 247 Sports’ rankings.
In the last two weeks Lewis has received offers from Oregon and Kansas, but the two local schools, Auburn and Alabama, are the perceived favorites. According to Jake Weingarten, Lewis will visit his home state school of Alabama on June 1, and on June 10 he will take an unofficial visit to Kentucky.
It’s not the first time Coach Cal and Avery Johnson have gone toe-to-toe for a guard from Alabama. Johnson won the battle for John Petty, but Calipari is doing what he can to make sure Johnson loses Lewis.
