In case you weren’t fortunate enough to catch Marcus McClinton & Co.’s rap video on the jumbo-tron before the Central Michigan game, ukathletics.com has been kind enough to share it with the world (click on the frontline video link). McClinton gives his best Lil’ John performance in this “cold beat” and, well, you’ll just have to experience it for yourself. I’m glad the ‘Cats are using “floetry” to get fired up, I just hope it helps him in pass coverage. My favorite line: “So jump around get crunk and knock some heads off…” Good to see that the players are finally taking pride in their jerseys. It takes me back to ’98 when a local radio station remixed Will Smith’s timeless tune “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit’ It” to include the chorus, “Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nazr, Nah Nah Nah Nah NAZR!” Middle School: good, awkward fun.
So does this mean don’t even show up?
Spurrier is a lot like Holtz and Pitino when it comes to motivation methods, in that they all use brutal, often negative honesty to describe their team. After a gamely performance against Auburn last week, Spurrier was quotes as saying, “we’re not good enough to beat a team like Auburn.” Yet, South Carolina was one dropped touchdown pass away from sending the game into overtime. So, in my best Ron Burgandy voice, “I don’t believe you.”
Spurrier didn’t stop his criticisms there, however. He also admonished the fans for their roar of support following the loss. “Please don’t clap when we lose.” The ol’ Ball Coach said bluntly. “They thought we were going to get clobbered. We didn’t get
clobbered so that’s OK,” Spurrier said. “That’s not OK.”
Wow Steve. Talk about taking the fun outta the Fun N’ Gun. It’s one thing to motivate your players with negativity, but I don’t think it’s the brightest PR move when you carp about fans appreciating a valiant effort. They pay to go; they can do what they want…as long as they don’t act like NC State fans.
Is this what you do with a Duke degree Matt?
Kentucky fans now have a new team to hate: the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizz are being purchased by an investment group which includes Christian Laettner and fellow ex-Duke Brian Davis (not the weeping, “oh my God” Davis, the other one). Laettner has even mentioned putting himself on the roster, even though he’s been out of the league for a couple of years. There ya go; nothing like an aging, NBA never-was to resurrect a franchise. It’s funny though, it seemed as if Laettner was a little short on cash these days. Whatever the case, it’s just amusing to think that Laettner is now Jerry West’s boss.
Solving world peace one reckless gambler at a time…
In the mammoth world of sports blogs, the Mighty MJD is one of the gems. Here is a good read detailing the imminent legislative maneuver to outlaw online sports books in the good ol’ USofA. Because we all know that internet gambling is the root of all the world’s ills at the moment. Thanks Big Bro!
