The best way to get over a bad loss is with a good win.
There is a lot on the line when the Cats take on 25th-ranked Missouri tonight. Mizzou has an 11-game road win streak. Kentucky has not defeated a ranked team since beating #18 South Carolina in 2010. If the Tigers want to 3-peat in the SEC East, all roads go through a win in Kentucky. If the Cats want to keep the fan base energized through the next 19 days until Auburn, they need a monumental win.
Kentucky is favored, but a win will still be an upset. Missouri forces teams to play ugly football. Kentucky cannot expect to compete if they do not play well on first down. If they get behind the chains, they limit their ability to make explosive plays, the plays that keep the crowd in it and change the momentum of the game.
Kentucky has what it takes to win, but can they execute? Stoops Troops will have to show it against their SEC foe from the Show Me State.

Party like Morgantown
Wait, no. DO NOT, under any circumstances, party like Morgantown, West Virginia.
The Weather is a lot like Last Week
Not good, but not bad. It should stay dry for most of the game, but it will be cloudy with off and on rain showers throughout your tailgate. Don’t let it calm you down, just come prepared for the elements, a.k.a. bring a slip n’ slide. Actually, a rain jacket would probably be more beneficial, but if I hear of any slip n’ sliding, rest assured I will be there.
It’s a Hall of Fame Weekend
Jared Lorenzen, Antoine Walker and six others began their induction ceremony into the UK Athletics Hall of Fame last night over a formal dinner. They also gave speeches, and of course, Jared Lorenzen crushed it. You can watch all of the moving moments from last night here, and make sure you give them a standing ovation today at Commonwealth Stadium.
Patrick Towles Must Perform Well
It won’t be easy against the nation’s #4 defense, but after an atrocious performance against Florida, he needs to be proficient to keep the pressure off and move forward in the football season. It’s not just season defining, it could be careeer-defining. Towles has all of the tangibles, but can he get his head right and make elite throws? I’m confident he can, but the proof will be in the pudding.
The Cats Must Contain
Maty Matthew Mauk
Matthew Mauk is as erratic and inconsistent as they come. But he’s also a 4th quarter hero, finishing 2014 with the highest 4th quarter QBR in the SEC. He can make moves with his feet and improvise to keep plays alive before busting a big play. Kentucky’s defense must put the pressure on him early and force him into bad decisions. In the last two meetings they have not and Mauk had torched them, throwing 7 touchdowns and zero interceptions. That cannot be the case today.
Tighten Up the Special Teams
Mizzou blacked a punt and an extra point last week. If they do either, Kentucky will need something crazy to give them a chance. Maybe a kickoff or punt return touchdown? Drew is still waiting for Sihiem King to bust a big one.
