The Kentucky football program has picked up its 13th commitment in the class of 2021.

This afternoon, three-star outside linebacker Martez Thrower announced his commitment to Kentucky, choosing the Wildcats over offers from Arkansas, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Nebraska, and Tennessee, among others.

“I will be taking my talents to Kentucky,” Thrower said in his announcement video, via Rivals. “Kentucky has made me a priority since early in my high school career. Coach Sumrall and the rest of the staff came in and recruited me early, made me a priority since then.

“Let’s go Big Blue Nation!”

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound pass-rusher out of Rochelle, GA is considered the No. 699 overall prospect and No. 42 outside linebacker in the 2021 247Sports Composite Rankings. Rivals lists Thrower as the No. 41 outside linebacker in the nation, while ESPN has him listed at No. 43 at the position.

Thrower joins Dekel Crowdus, Armond Scott, Christian Lewis, Chauncey Magwood, Jordan Lovett, David Wohlabaugh, Paul Rodriguez, La’Vell Wright, Kaiya Sheron, Kahlil Saunders, Joko Willis, and Wilson Berry as early commitments in the 2021 class.

With Thrower’s commitment, Kentucky jumps up to No. 42 overall in the 2021 247Sports Recruiting Team Rankings, up six spots from the program’s previous ranking at No. 48 overall.

We need to get back to being in or near a Top 10 recruiting class again. While we love the direction of the program and their player development… we need to consistently be inside the Top 10 or at least 15 to ever consistently contend for the SEC Championship.

Not trying to be negative ferrari but what do you mean again? We have never had top 10 recruiting classes in Football. Stoops & group have put together the best recruiting we have EVER seen. It’s been great!

It’s nice to see another quality athlete from Georgia committing to the CATS !!!! Georgia has over 250 high school football players that commit to Division 1 schools.

With his size, speed and instincts seems like he should be ranked higher than a 3 star. On film he looks like a really good player.

Omg another great one in the fold iwe have arrived BBN . Who would have thought UK would be the choice over the blue blood schools in FB . I’m just wondering now if Mitch should just go ahead and make Stoops a top 5 paid coach in the country he needs to ,ock him up before it’s too late. I dont see Saban hanging around Bama much longer sure that job will go to Dabo then Clemson will be wanting Stoops. get it done Mitch ASP.

BigBluSoTru Why would Clemson want a coach who can’t even beat Tennessee?

@Cahill why look at what Stoops has done for our program . He is beating blue blood fb programs on a regular recruiting top 10 classes multiple big time bowl wins ,10 win season , we have like what a 9 win avg now. We are picked every year to be a factor in the SEC now . Thats why lock him up now while we can. He’s worth being paid top 5 money or if need be make him top 3 . We have never been to these heights in FB.

Technique needs some work but that’s easily fixable at the next level. His intangibles and his instinct are what we need at the LB position. Good pickup.
