Will Muschamp Approves of Jake Bentley’s Flop

Jeff Blake

Nobody likes a flopper, except Will Muschamp.

South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley attempted to earn an Academy Award nomination during last week’s game against Kentucky.  After a play in the second half, Bentley walked by UK’s Josh Allen, then flung himself into the air like a rag doll.

Some soccer players would be proud of Bentley’s efforts, but one South Carolina fan was not.  During Will Muschamp’s weekly call-in show, one fan asked if the coach talked to his quarterback about the play.

“It’s embarrassing to me,” the fan told Muschamp. “It’s not really a good look for us as Gamecocks.”

Muschamp did not seem to have a problem with it.

“If he’s trying to get a 15-yard penalty, then I’m all for it,” Muschamp said. “The guy is a hell of a competitor.  If he’s trying to get a 15-yard penalty, let’s do it.  The guy competes his [butt] off.”

Get used to it Gamecocks.  You’re going to see a lot of this in the future from your wunderkind quarterback.

    That’s not competing. That’s cheating.

That’s abusing a rule system in place to keep you safe in order to get a free 15 yards that you didn’t deserve. The fact that WM is applauding his quarterback’s efforts shows exactly what kind of a man he is, much less coach.

This. He basically admitted that he doesn’t care about cheating if it works. He’s telling his guys to play like punks, do whatever it takes to get the W. Guarantee he’s breaking rules off the field with that attitude, too.

Bentley clearly attended a Coach K summer camp on flopping.

John Higgins just issued an intentional foul on UK and the SC Gamecocks basketball team will start the game with UK with 2 foul shots and the ball.

Instead of checking on his best offensive lineman’s injury three feet away, this clown is going full Duke PG. Yeah, that’s what I want the leader of my team doing…bet that went over real well during film sessions.

Based on Muschump’s comments, it must have gone over just fine.

Running a real class show there so far. No hand shakes, encourage cheating.

Let’s see how Muscheat feels when an officials flags his QB for 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct.

A flag should have been throw on that play. The QB should have been penalized for atrocious acting.

Leadership. That apple, failed to roll out from under the shade of the tree, from which it fell.

For those of you who are more familiar with the rules than those of us who are casual (but enthusiastic) fans, why wouldn’t a flop like this qualify for an “unsportsmanlike conduct” penalty?

So Muschamp is perfectly ok with cheating as long as he gets a 15 yard penalty…. and that’s the guy you want leading your impressionable young men South Carolina? That’s great life lessons for your guys Mr Muschamp. (<–Sarcasm, just in case it wasn't obvious)
