After a 2-10 rebuilding season, finding hope for the future may seem difficult.  Mark Stoops has not stopped recruiting since accepting the job, earning the #13 class in 2014 after landing nine 4-star commits (with one more potentially on the way).  It’s easy to become optimistic for the future, but can the #BBN rely on young guys to make an immediate impact? Here is a breakdown of how Stoops’ first players (ranked #39) fared in their first year compared to the upperclassmen that will not be a part of the program next season.

Points*

Stoops’ Players: 78 points (44.3%)

Players’ leaving: 42 points (23.9%)

Rushing Touchdowns

Stoops’ Players: 3 (18.8%)

Players’ leaving: 6 (37.5%)

Rushing Yards

Stoops’ Players: 582 yards (32.8%)

Players’ leaving: 836 yards (47.1%)

Receiving Yards

Stoops’ Players: 1,487 yards (64.1%)

Players’ leaving: 602 yards (25.9%)

Receiving Touchdowns

Stoops’ Players: 10 (71.4%)

Players’ leaving: 2 (14.2%)

Tackles

Stoops’ Players: 220 (24.9%)

Players’ leaving: 236 (26.8%)

*I did not take into account SR Kicker and team-leader in points Joe Mansour.I also didn’t include passing stats, because there wasn’t a Stoops’ QB that threw a pass this year.

That doesn’t mean anything since his players got all the minutes. Without Stoops Troops we still would have went 2-10. And Mobley would have been a 1000 yard rusher and still be on the team.

so this is an argument that the players don’t matter and therefore the responsibility for the 2-10 record falls squarely on the coaching staff? i’m not arguing. just wish to clarify.

Joker would have gave up 10 more points a game while scoring 20 less with this team so no it’s not always the coaches fault. In this case you can literally blame the lack of a down field QB. There were enough big opportunities during several games last season to win a couple of them but the sheer lack of accuracy down field by both Whitlow and Smith ruined it. With a decent QB UK could have been 6-6. Louisville, Miss St, Florida, WKU, S. Carolina, Vanderbilt, and Tennessee all were winnable till the end and all had guys break loose down field.

wait a second. the stoops apologists cited the fact that he was playing the exact same team that joker had last year as the reason for the 2-10 record. those guys are going to be so mad when they find out that it was stoops’ first-year guys who scored almost twice as many points than joker’s old guys.

The Cats would still be 2-10,and may have lost by bigger margins, although it’s hard to say that any defense could have been as bad as the one we witnessed this year.

Last years was worse. At least this team held together when the starters were in. When depth became a factor that’s when team started racking up points.

All of Stoops freshmen were able to acheive what Joker’s experienced team did last year, but these freshmen will just keep getting better. If the train keeps moving in this direction, there’s no reason we can’t win 3 or 4 SEC games in two years

Ah heck DH, we might even win the conference!

Shucks, Carl jr, to go from two wins total to 4 SEC wins is a huge improvement. And I never said that was our ceiling, either, just said that’s where we could be in 2 years. Not sure why that doesn’t sound like much of an improvement to you. Maybe it’s the knuckle-dragging that’s keeping you from catching up

All of Stoops players got all of the minutes.
    Not even a fair comparison!!!!!!!!!!!
Jokers guys were buried. Look at what Mobley did the last two games when he got a chance.
No doubt the current coaching staff wanted to go 2-10.
Freshman players stunk it up. That’s the statistic I have as a season ticket holder.
This year the new freshman will play like freshman. The schedule is lighter so maybe 3-9.

fact is, the joke would have won two games also, maybe three! the little fat, red headed midget will prosper as well here as joker, curry, brooks etc. as long as ky is in the SEC it will continue to be a grave yard for head coaches

I’m torn between wanting the football team I follow to be successful and my belief that this idiotic fanbase doesn’t deserve success. I’m not sure there’s ever been bigger group of morons pulling in one ignorant, collective direction than within the UK fanbase.

On the plus side, either I get to watch football success, or I get to laugh at the mouthbreathing fans. I guess I’m a winner either way.

….and I could not agree with you more, but I would be happier if we could get invited to a bowl game.

Stoops will regret running off Moberly. The backs next yr should have been kemp/Moberly and the kid who has been out for a cple yrs and possibly one freshman with the others redshirting.. And please find a QB not an athlete in a qb uni.

Hopefully, Stoops won’t look over Towles who may be the surprise of the spring.

This is what divide the team to read something like this. When the players are already thinking that they are not getting a fare chance to compete. Yes the players is already thinking this coaching staff show FAVORTISM to their recruits. And another thing REESE Phillips will win the QB race in the Spring

What did happen? Same result as Joker so far…. Here’s to a much better 2014!

It is sad that this article was even written. It is so hard for me to believe that these Freshman are better than more experienced players who in good faith committed to Kentucky. It is going to be hard to watch Barker play over Towels next year….
