Mark Stoops spoke to the media one final time ahead of the Wildcats’ season-opening road trip to Auburn.
Speaking after Thursday’s practice, Stoops was forced to make a few slight adjustments. Initially, the plan was for the team to take their final COVID-19 rapid test Friday morning, with the team departing once results were ready. That test was pushed to Thursday. They’ll still receive their results Friday morning. Throughout Stoops’ tenure, UK’s head coach has bunked trends by making Thursday the light walk-through, followed by a run-through on Friday. The additional COVID-19 test forced Stoops to hold the run-through today ahead of a Friday walk-through.
Despite a slightly adjust schedule, Stoops was pleased with Kentucky’s final week of preparation. “Really good week of practice. We’ve been blessed with some beautiful weather. Again, we’re relatively healthy. The players have been working for a long time and we’re excited about this opportunity to get going and get the season starting.”
Stoops added, “We’re anxious to get on that plan tomorrow.”

“Just to go through his progressions, be confident, make quick decisions and play the game, get as many reps as he can and get him as game ready as humanly possible and make quick, good decisions,” Stoops said. “He’s really done a good job, but as you know it’s much different being out there on the practice field or competing in an SEC football game.”
P.S. Joey Gatewood — Did you really think Stoops would have an update? Of course not. He doesn’t anticipate hearing anything on the Auburn transfer’s status before the Wildcats board the plane for the Plains.
