Wan’Dale Robinson tabbed as one of five SEC high-impact transfers

By my count, there have been roughly 4,492,013 transfers in college football this year; one national writer believes Kentucky wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson is one of the most important. CBS Sports’ Barrett Sallee included Robinson, who transferred from Nebraska to Kentucky in January, in his list of five high-impact transfers in the SEC.

The Nebraska transfer has what it takes to be one of the most versatile players in the entire country. He had 580 rushing yards and 914 receiving yards in two years in Lincoln, and is joining a Kentucky offense that has proven over the last several years that it can mold itself into whatever the personnel dictates any given year. Coach Mark Stoops is unlikely to change that even though Eddie Gran was replaced by Liam Coen during the offseason. Robinson, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound Swiss Army Knife, will be a big part of Kentucky’s quest to get back into SEC East contention.

Also on the list: Alabama linebacker Henry To’o To’o, Florida running back DeMarkcus Bowman, Georgia tight end Arik Gilbert, and LSU linebacker Mike Jones Jr.

This isn’t the first time Sallee has raved about Robinson. In May, he wrote that he thinks the versatile wideout could be a Heisman Trophy contender, once again using that “Swiss Army Knife” comparison.

The Nebraska transfer and Swiss Army Knife will be the ultimate playmaker in the SEC and vault Kentucky back into SEC East contention. As a result, he’ll put himself in the Heisman race and make a push for a spot in New York as a Heisman finalist. OK, that might be too much of an overreaction. But he was the buzz of the spring in Lexington, and when combined with dual-threat quarterback Joey Gatewood — who is a big-time threat running up-the-middle — this Wildcats offense could be extremely dangerous.

I’m trying to keep my expectations for Robinson and this season in check, but stuff like this makes it tough. Enjoy some highlights from Robinson in spring practice and his freshman season at Nebraska.

I’m trying hard to suppress my enthusiasm for this year, given new OC/offensive scheme, but I get the anticipation creeping upwards as the season approaches.
