Visitation information released for Marco Shemwell

Visitation information for the four-year-old boy killed outside of Kroger Field last Saturday has been released.

Marco Shemwell’s visitation will be held from 4:30-8:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 23 at Calvary Christian Church.

The funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, September 24 at Calvary by Pastor Mike McCormick.  Scobee Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, and the burial will be in Winchester Cemetery.

Here is the obituary:

“Marco Shemwell, 4, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2018 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.  He was born in Lexington, Kentucky, on August 25, 2014, to Benjamin David and Elizabeth Gilpin Shemwell. He attended preschool at Flutterby Discovery Center, and was a member of Calvary Christian Church in Winchester.  Marco had a big personality and smile that wouldlight any room.  His spirit was full of joy and captivated anyone that had the pleasure of knowing him.  His love for life, family and Jesus was infectious. Marco spent most of his time playing Legos and cars with his big brother, as well as dance parties in the kitchen.  Marco enjoyed music, singing and playing his guitar.  He also loved Batman and Kentucky Football, always cheering for the blue team.  He will be truly missed.”

Kentucky football head coach Mark Stoops and other members of the team/coaching staff will be honorary pallbearers.

“Honorary pallbearers will be Coach Stoops and the University of Kentucky Football Team and Coaching Staff, officers Montoya and Taylor and other members of the UK Police Department, UK Health Care and PICU team and all other first responders who helped in the families’ time of need. The Shemwell Family would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming response of prayers, support and love during this difficult time.”

Once again, prayers from the KSR family during this absolutely devastating time.

Tear up every time I read about this… even more so knowing he just had a birthday a few weeks before. Tragic.

So tragic. So devastating. So very sad. My first and only grandson turned 1 earlier this week. Yesterday as I pulled him around the neighborhood in a wagon, my head was on a swivel with the sound of every approaching car. Life is fragile. Nothing is promised. Let’s all count our blessings and let’s all pray for those impacted by this horrible tragedy.

Hoping the love and compassion of those who surround this family can help to heal the broken hearts caused by this senseless tragedy. A space in their heart will always remain for Marco, and hoping that space will be warm and beautiful.
Our love goes out to the Shemwell family, may they find peace in the coming days.
Blessings to them all. They will always be in our thoughts throughout this most difficult time.

Marco is at peace with the Lord far from the horrors of this world. Let his memory make others think twice about driving drunk.
