Vince Marrow wants to assure the BBN he’ll be here for “a long time”

In the past few days, two Kentucky football assistant coaches have been rumored candidates for other jobs: Derrick Ansley at Georgia, and Jimmy Brumbaugh at Alabama.  Bama hired Bo Davis yesterday, so Brumbaugh is safe (for now), while Ansley’s future remains uncertain.

Rumors have even swirled around recruiting guru/tight ends coach Vince Marrow, Mark Stoops’ childhood friend who has made Kentucky a recruiting force to reckon with in.  Marrow spoke with Matt Jones this morning, and wants to assure the Big Blue Nation that he’s not leaving Kentucky, and plans “to be here for a long time.”

In fact, word around the Nutter Training Center is that UK is finalizing details on a new contract for Marrow.  Phew.

I don’t follow our football team all that much but maybe someone could clear the air. Why would top flight football programs want UK defensive coordinators when we are so bad? Are they great recruiters?

Well Aaron, we are “so” bad, but these coaches have only been here 1 year! Give them a chance….. If others are interested, thats a good thing for UK.

Obviously you don’t have as good of an eye for talent as most top flight programs do. They see the potential in our guys.

Who wants our defensive coordinator? Haven’t seen Eliots’s name mentioned anywhere.

Pay Marrow what he is worth, don’t let him get away! He is making about one third of what other people get! You can’t put a dollar amount on what he has already done for UK!

100% agree. There is a lot of money being thrown at top assistants. We need to stay in the game!!

I know these coaches are better than what we had before they got here but why in the world did Florida want our old coach in Joker? I find it funny that they were a top 5 team the year before he got there and then they went 4-8 this year. He could have coach the New England Patriots and still lost in the SEC.

Yeah, sure, the wide receivers coach has a huge impact on the W/L record. That’s why Tommy Mainord made such a huge difference for UK last year when he came on board. There’s no question that Joker was in over his head as head coach at UK. Lol, but really, for about 55 of the last 60 years, every UK coach has been in over his head. The anti Joker cra.p is so tired. Let it go.

Vince isn’t leaving this year, but his quote and you’re headline say two different things.

We have had our moments during my lifetime of 62 years. The Norton, Byrd and Ball teams played some good football, as did Curci and Mumme but at a price. Claiborne put competitive teams on the field and gave the best Florida teams all they wanted until the last few minutes of every game. Guy Morris had good things going and Papa Brooks got a consistent roll eventually. Remember beating the top 5 Clemson team in 2006 Bowl? Four strait wins against that perineal big east power Louisville?
Stoops has brought in a better level of talent here since the Norton group. I feel Stoops has that burning in his gut to make it translate to wins

AMEN BROTHER!! Stoops and co. have done an amazing job recruiting, possibly TOP 10-15. Leading the charge is our man Vince! He seems to be the “glue” of this staff so make sure someone doesn’t steal him away. I have a feeling that if the pay is right , he will be loyal to Stoops.

We need to keep Morrow and all the great coaches Stoops has assembled, UK has it going like never
before, or since Bear Bryant teams sixty years ago had. We need to KEEP these guys on board to propel ahead of the slime balls up the road. Stoops is getting better players then Brooks had when we beat #1 LSU, who went on to win the BCS National Championship that year. You win the the Jimmy’s & Joe’s, NOT the x’s and o’s. Niel Brown said this week we are bringing in a lot more “pieces” needed to compete and win in America’s BEST football conference. GO BBN!
