Vandy Football takes the crown for the worst tweet ever

If I were in charge of marketing for a college football team, you know what I wouldn’t do? Bring any attention to a scandal happening in my program.

Well, Vandy Football did just that today, tweeting out their new slogan: “WE DON’T NEED YOUR PERMISSION.” You know, the same Vandy Football program that’s been embroiled in a rape scandal since 2013. Whoops.

They quickly deleted the tweet, but not before I (and every other smart person with any social media sense) took a screenshot:

Could be an interesting afternoon down on West End.

UPDATE: Vandy just issued this apology on Twitter…

We apologize for today’s tweet. It’s not a comment about sexual assault. Sex without permission is always wrong and not accepted. Sexual assault is not acceptable at Vanderbilt University, Vanderbilt Athletics and Vanderbilt Football.”

I guess Vandy is capable of “imposing its will” on somebody after all…

I foresee an open position in Vandy’s athletic department.

This is awful on so many levels. What does “The City. The Degree. The SEC.” mean anyway? I get the city and SEC but the degree?

And just the concept of asking for permission. I take cookies and don’t ask for permission. You don’t ask for permission in football.

I just LOLd at their apology. Yes, it was an idiotic tweet, but to think you actually have to spell it out in the apology like that is funny to me. I really would’ve rather seen, “Guys, sorry, we really didn’t think about how that could be construed. Our bad and we have deleted it.”

Why anyone would think the rape incident and the slogan are related is beyond me. I guess all you ultra sensitive, PC youngsters need something to cry about though. Our country is soft as baby doodoo.

No one “thinks they’re related”, doofus. It’s a gaffe, and a very obvious one at that. Everyone but you gets it.

Do you think the girl that got raped would be happy to see that?

Did Vandy hire the guy behind Budweiser’s “The perfect beer for removing ‘no’ from your vocabulary” slogan?
