Urban Meyer placed on administrative leave at Ohio State

Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

This afternoon, Brett McMurphy released a bombshell report that alleges Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer knew about domestic violence allegations against a member of his staff back in 2015 and did nothing.

Now, Ohio State has officially put Meyer on administrative leave and his future with the program is in jeopardy.

Reports surfaced last week that former Ohio State wide receivers coach Zach Smith was reportedly involved in two domestic disputes, and the school fired him when the story went public. When asked about the incident at Big Ten Media Days, Meyer denied any knowledge of the situation.

Now, text messages and interviews with Smith’s ex-wife, Courtney, prove otherwise:

Oddly enough, this was added to Meyer’s contract extension signed back in April:

(H/T to college football writer  for the find)

If Jim Tressel lost his job over some tattoos, there’s no way Meyer makes it out of this one. He’s done for.

On another note, Nike is going to really regret making this shirt:

allegations ……allegations ……So he was suppose to suspend someone because someone else said he did something? No police report? Nothing showing it actually happened 3 years ago or whatever?

That’s not why he’s in trouble.

He’s in trouble because he’s lied about knowing about any of it. The lie is what will hang him, not employing a scumbag.

Meyer is a piece of crap who has been playing loose with the truth for years.

Cousins lacks comprehension skills. He should have reported what he knew when he first learned of it. It would’ve been up to the school to investigate then. He failed to report suspicion of domestic violence, and then he lied and said he had never heard anything about it. It’s really not that difficult to understand what he did wrong here.

Bet uofl goes after him after Patrino leaves after this coming season. However I bet Jerry Jones will have Meyer on Speed dial if Garrett doesn’t get Dallas past the Divisional round of the playoffs.

It’s not okay to sweep domestic violence under the rug and not report it to the proper channels. He should’ve told school officials. Anyone who would hide this would hide a number of things…he’s a sleazeball and football wins aren’t worth being sleazy.

Tressel was on my wish list for a while, whether or not he has a show cause. A school like Kentucky has to either get super lucky with a young gun or go after someone questionable and give them a second chance.

this is an example of the totalitarian intolerance of the left. a white Male may have known about allegations against another white Male that were never reported, so he must be fired…its a bad time to be a white Male and uber-leftist matt Jones loves it.

    • drew_123
      8:56 pm August 1, 2018 Permalink

This isn’t a left or right issue. It’s a fact Urban’s wife knew what was going on. It’s a fact the rest of the coaches wives knew what was going on. It’s pretty clear the rest of the coaches knew what was going on. You would have to jump through some pretty tough mental gymnastics to think that Urban did not know what was happening right under his nose.

if he did know, why would he move to fire the guy if there was no reporting of the abuse? what would meyer have told the media?, “an assistant was accused of abuse but she didnt report it. however, I’ve decided to fire him because women never lie and white men are always guilty”

    • drew_123
      9:21 pm August 1, 2018 Permalink

He is in trouble because of Title 9. If he knew he is legally obligated to report the incident because they both work for the university. I know he’s pretty polarizing, but Clay Travis put up a periscope earlier today explaining this.

    • kenny

I work with guys everyday and don’t know what’s going on in their homes. The guy was never charged, the wife stayed with the alleged abuser for years after the allegations began.

    • drew_123
      9:23 pm August 1, 2018 Permalink

There is a reason why most major reporters believe Urban is losing his job. It’s clear that there’s pretty sufficient evidence he knew of the incidents and lied about not knowing of them.

    • Booby Petrino
      9:22 pm August 1, 2018 Permalink

So if you suspect someone is abusing their wife, as their boss you shouldn’t report it to your higher ups so they can investigate and decide if they want that kind of person on their payroll? What if you suspect someone of child abuse or sexual abuse…you just sit on that info bc there is no police report?

MadHatter: The problem is there isn’t a discussion to be had. If we’d like to discuss the idea of morality or what constitutes as moral, then sure. However, protecting “your guy” when he’s beating his wife (and has a history of it) doesn’t really have a lot of room for discussion.

urban meyer wasn’t “beating his wife”…his assistant was accused of doing so, but she never reported it. this is a witch hunt that liberal matt Jones loves because it may bring down a white Male. liberals like matt Jones would love for all white males who aren’t outspoken liberals to be punished because of unreported incidents their employees are involved in.

I think if we are honest with ourselves, there were a few raised eyebrows, certainly by the owner of this site, when Calipari was anointed King. I am glad he was, turned out to be the perfect fit.
Although coach Cal’s background was somewhat suspicious, and ultimately proven innocent, he has yet to mentor a murderer, or a wife beater.
    He has not lied either.
I do not think now, or ever, Urban Meyer would ever be considered here. He is not trustworthy, nor does he have moral character.

Even if there was any actual evidence he knew, Meyer will just take a health issue like he did in Florida, just like the uconn coach years ago, and skate. Just because urbane’s wife knew and said she’d tell him, does not mean she did, and a wife cannot be compelled to testify against her husband.

It’s clear to anyone that he knew. It’s just not provable in court based on that interview.

Ohio State isn’t looking to get rid of the liar, anyway, so this is all pointless. If they are, they could according to the co tract.

They have to go through procedures, but it comes down to what is provable, unless title 9 itself doesn’t require proof, if they want to keep him. If they can prove he knew, they might have to fire him anyway because of public opinion/pressure, but otherwise it is a judgment call on their part
