UNC coach: If football becomes soft, America’s going down

America’s going down and North Carolina football coach Larry Fedora knows why: concerns about player safety in football. This morning at ACC Football Media Days, Fedora used his time to defend the sport, which he says is “under attack” by those who believe it has become too dangerous.

Why is America at risk if football becomes too soft? According to a general Fedora spoke with, the American military is the best in the world because so many troops grew up playing football.

As you might expect, Fedora is NOT a fan of new rule changes like the one to allow returners to signal for a fair catch inside the 25-yard line for a touchback, going as far to call studies that link football and the degenerative brain disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) fake news.

The link between football and CTE is impossible to ignore, to the point the NFL has even acknowledged it. Last year, the Journal of American Medical Association examined the brains of deceased former football players (CTE can only be diagnosed after death) and found that 110 out of 111 brains of those who played in the NFL had CTE.

But sure, let’s all take Larry Fedora’s word for it.

His biggest problem is that he has to have players who go to class now…second thought, he still doesn’t have to have players going to class…the NCAA made an exception for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

lets just bubble wrap all the players! That would solve everything. I am of course joking. I am all for player safety and making and keeping rules that keep them as safe as possible. Lets not kid ourselves this is a violent sport with large fast people colliding with each other on every play. Toughness does matter in life and I think what the cpach was saying is when we cease to be tough minded and physically tough we lose what made this country great. Be weak, act weak and watch the world come in and take our stuff and rule us. That is the simple truth.

There is no truth is his statements. None. Football is not saving the United States. Please ask that General to go to Congress and argue that football is saving the military. He would be retired before he finished that sentence.

I agree with this coach. Young boys grow up on the football field to young men. It provides the opportunity to learn to follow and lead under physical and mental conditions most other human beings on this planet will never experience. Also, it conjoint individuals to the simple word TEAM! Take the I, me, and my out of oneself it will take you father than anything in life. Remove this from our country let along this world, and we will see a lot of lost and unguided men become subject to the liberal, philosophical, anti-Christian, anti-normal mindset of society. We’ll soon see men unsure of their role as a man and women unsure of their self as women…wait we are already seeing that. Boy Scouts is now Girl Scouts and etc. Men are men, we sweat, we bleed, we fight, we labour. So do women, but differently. Men are different and we serve a purpose unlike others. It all start at home with the parents though. Some make it some don’t.
As for head injuries they are real and they will happen. The need for a better helmet is in dire need and an overwatch on tackling technique enforced with decreased tackling during weekly preparation. Thanks for listening.

If I was forced to choose, I’d rather lick Putin’s boot than Obama’s ass. When Democrats stop talking about how bad trump is, and realize they didn’t have anyone worthy to beat him, this argument will end. Who’s democratic front runner in 2020? The stated socialist Sanders? Or Obama’s protégé Biden?? This is your problem, not Trump

You’re an idiot, and your post is horrible. You do know that probably 95% of the black players are liberals? You do know that some white players are as well? What is antichristian? How does one become antichristian? I’m atheist, but I’m not antichristian. I don’t give a damn what kind of magic man in the sky you believe in. If you believe in that, I would never criticize you for it. You’re christian because you were indoctrinated at a young age. I’m glad my parents saw through that

    • tree_gardener
      4:39 pm July 18, 2018 Permalink

Irish son, you just said you would never criticize someone for being Christian. You took two subtle shots at Christianity during your post. Don’t say you would never criticize and then take a jab at people for something they believe in. It’s the same principle with you’re parents “seeing through” everything when you were young. Everyone is indoctrinated into something in one form or another at a young age. So don’t act like you’re taking the high ground and then be a d*** two seconds later.

Sometimes this football “hit em in the mouth” mentality is so stupid. I agree there needs to be a level of toughness but for a college football coach to disregard the CTE studies is ridiculous. He probably doesn’t give his team water breaks either because dehydration doesn’t exist. What an idiot

That’s because you really didn’t say anything; you just took an unfair shot at the author of the article. I am left to surmise that you agree with the UNC idiot…who is now the laughing stock of the football world.
I will say, that’s one way to move the conversation from last year’s 3-9 record.

And, the author sucks. That clear enough for you? In an ideal world, her and roush would sit in a room together and fap to how great Nashville and desales are (hint: they’re not) without subjecting the rest of us to their whiney little rants.

      1. U.S. Military capability is dependent upon football…seriously?
      2. Boston U Study shows 87% of former football players’ brains were positive for CTE…but let’s listen to a coach.

    11. Amen. This is like many of the things Trump says. Everyone knows many of them are true but nearly no one says it in public for this very reason. Of course football is safer than ever – look at the adding. Should we ban police and construction workers because their job is dangerous too? Or maybe give them plastic hammers and no ladders?

    • UkChubbs
      9:18 pm July 18, 2018 Permalink

You, like most people in this thread, have no idea what you’re talking about. Cte is caused by repeated hits to the head. The nfl even agrees with this. How can you say it doesn’t when 110 out of 111 brains of nfl players tested had cte. You must also not believe in global warming even in the face of decades worth of evidence. Also construction workers try not to use ladders anymore because they are dangerous. That’s how things work. If you find something that causes a lot of injuries and happens frequently you try to find a better solution. But ya keep believing this moronic coach’s nonsense.

    1. Re-read the story apraxia guy. You should be educated somewhat to understand that it was a “relational” statement. Football=tough man=tough Soldier.
    2. Who cares about Boston U and their studies…I teach about TBI, have TBI, and treated casualties for TBI…so keep it coming if you wanna know more about TBI/CTE!
    3. Should have played football…you might have made all the way to CAG…but, you know more than me…LOL!
