UK Reminds Fans that the Spring Game is Important to Recruits

Think you’re the only one excited for the Spring Game this year?  Actually you probably don’t think that.  I mean, the chances of only one person being excited about something, no matter what it is, seem pretty small.  So we accept that you’re not the only one excited for the Blue & White game, but the point is that it’s important to know who else is excited for it: football players.  And not just our football players, but high school football players.  The ones who are thinking about coming to Lexington and helping us climb the SEC ladder.  Those guys.

And if you enjoy having Top 25 classes under Mark Stoops, like we all do, it’s important that you know the impact a rabid fanbase can have.  Especially in April.  According to some of Stoops’ biggest recruits, the Blue-White game was their first chance at seeing how crazy UK fans can be, contrary to popular belief.  For some, like Army All-American Drew Barker, it even swayed their recruitment in our favor.

For others, like Mikel Horton, it was a glimpse into a raucous Commonwealth Stadium that was enough to inspire both humility and passion.

So don’t take these sorts of exhibitions for granted.  We know how important Big Blue Madness is for basketball recruits, so we can go out of our way to make sure these football players have the same sort of experience.    It clearly matters.  Plus the weather next week looks absolutely, ridiculously terrific.  Like, 71 and sunny.  As in, “No need to pack pants, people.” It should be a great time.

i’d love to be there…but heading to family Easter events all day. Cool quote from D. Barker…although he was coming here the whole time. Good marketing though.

My son and I have gone to the spring game for the last 5 years and last year was the best! If you want a top tier football program, then attending this game is a must. There is a baseball game at one o’clock and then the spring game at 3:30 pm. It makes for a really fun day. Recruits will notice the fan support and help us beat out Alabama and other top teams!

If you don’t think it’s important for recruiting, then think of this:Of the 28 guys we signed last year, 20 of them went to the Spring Game! And to the poster who said he has Easter activities:Either you don’t know when Easter is or you don’t know when the Spring Game is

  6. does anyone have info?

I have some close friends involved in the football program and many have said that there potentially could be something very bad and very big about to come out about the football program in the next week or so. I of course am skeptical, but does anyone have any thoughts?

    • Absolutely true. I have inside information.

Mark Stoops is going to go out on a limb and predict he will win at least one SEC game this year!

You mean we have an African American studies class just like UNC ????? Or maybe we had a few football players go to New York and buy a few $100,000.00 dollars worth of jewelry.

  7. Will we get to see "multiple picks" by our elite defense?

Even Alabama’s defense doesn’t produce “multiple picks” during practice. We must have some amazing D!

Getting out to the spring game is imperative! A lot of us gripe and moan about what we want UK football to be. Packing out Commonwealth DOES make a difference. This is one of the few ways we as fans can impact the direction of the program. We got Joker out by voting with our attendance and financial support. Coach Stoops has earned our full support BBN. Show the recruits, players and staff that we want and demand excellence!
