UK loses another left tackle

Kentucky lost its starting left tackle, Landon Young, a week before the season began. Now Young’s backup, Naasir Watkins, is out with an injury as well.

According to Mark Stoops, Watkins “will be out for a while,” after suffering a left knee injury in Saturday’s game against South Carolina. “He’ll be out several weeks,” Stoops said Monday, as he expected.

With Watkins out, E.J. Price, who had been sharing the left tackle responsibilities with Watkins, becomes the full-time starter.

True freshman Darrian Kinnard made his way onto the depth chart as the second-string option behind Price. Kinnard will back up both tackles.

This has been my biggest fear, and been a big part of late season collapses in the past. Obviously, there’s going to be a huge drop-off in experience when this happens…but I just hope we have better young talent overall that’s ready to at least not get steamrolled by SEC competition. (fingers crossed)

At least our QB can excell at scrambling. Our interior is the strength of the line anyways. Sucks but not a huge blow

Well it is a huge blow to both the team and the young man. What a stupid thing to say, you seem to do that often.

Kinnard is a stud. Hopefully he can bring it during games.

Hopefully Kinnard only needed in 4 or less games so he can keep his red-shirt.

A tough loss, but every team loses a few guys. Football is a violent game and injuries happen.

All the best to Watkins in his recovery and next man up.

You may recall our offense became kind of stagnant and wasn’t opening the same holes after he went out.

Was thinking the same thing Han. Hopefully we’ll have him back by the Mizzou game.

This is a big deal…while we had/have great depth in the OL, beginning to take a toll. Hope he can come back later in the season. Everyone else has to elevate.
