UK Football’s 2018 Media Guide is Here

Just in time for SEC Media Days, UK has released the media guide for the upcoming 2018 season.  Currently not available for public consumption, here’s a few things you will find in this year’s 251-page season preview.

One thing you won’t find is a depth chart, but you will find new names and numbers.  The most notable from the group:

3 — QB Terry Wilson
12 — K Chance Poore
14 — WR Ahmad Wagner
20 — RB Kavosiey Smoke
22 — RB Chris Rodriguez
30 — CB Dom Williams
50 — NT Marquan McCall
84 — WR Marvin B.J. Alexander
93 — P Max Duffy

The incoming freshman wide receiver who could use his top end speed to play right away will not be known as Marvin.  Instead, he’s B.J.  I don’t know the reason for the change, but it’s unfortunate that we cannot debate who’s the best UK receiver named Marvin, Alexander or Love?

There are two new graduate assistants who have worn a Kentucky uniform.  Courtney Love was a defensive team captain a year ago; this year he’ll work for Matt House with the linebackers.  As the quarterback competition develops, they’ll be guided by a guy who’s won a couple of those competitions, Maxwell Smith.

The final unexpected addition is a transfer from Jackson State.  Defensive end Brandon Frazier will be a walk-on for the Cats.  A three-star recruit from John Ehret High School in New Orleans, Frazier decided to transfer to help his mother, who lives in Lexington and has reportedly suffered health problems following an auto accident.

Of all the news revealed in the Media Guide, the most important news is that UK didn’t kick out Freddie.  Our former football writer had a couple of records surpassed last season by Stephen Johnson.  Johnson now has five game-winning drives to Freddie’s four, and is ninth on UK’s all-time passing list.  Freddie was pushed to No. 16 all-time, but the fine media relations folks were kind enough to keep him in the record books.
