UK Fans of the Day Want Two Big Gameday Changes

Today, UK sent out an email detailing changes to the gameday procedures at Kroger Field and two stuck out to me: they’re making more parking passes available to season ticket holders and letting fans help choose pregame music.

The parking situation at Kroger Field has been a major source of contention for the program’s loyalest fans in recent years. As a result, UK is making more parking spots available for season ticket holders in the lots and garages surrounding the stadium. From

Parking permits are currently available in the Red Numbered Reserved and Green Numbered Reserved parking areas as well as the Blue VIP and Red VIP lots. A very limited number of standard parking permits are also available in select lots and garages, starting at $168.

Secondly, fans are getting a little more control over the music played during warmups. By downloading the RockBot app, fans will be able to pick songs from a pre-selected arrangement, which will then appear on the video board along with a “coming up” section. Hopefully that pre-selected arrangement doesn’t including “Cotton-Eyed Joe.”

Also of note: if you want an awesome tailgate setup but don’t want to put in the effort, UK Athletics is teaming up with Tailgate Guys, the leader in game day hospitality services nationwide, to offer fans turnkey, hassle-free tailgating for home football games. All tailgates are located steps away from Kroger Field and offer a variety of package offerings to accommodate groups ranging from 10 to 200-plus. Wow, those sweeping changes should help sell ALL of the remaining tickets to the opener – NOT! Mitch “disconnected” Barnhart should be embracing the experience for both students and fans, maybe starting with creating an iconic tailgating park. On other SEC campuses swarms of fans tailgate and don’t even go to the games, just so they can experience the environment because it’s a fun destination. Oh that’s right, we wouldn’t want to facilitate more tailgating because they might want to drink and have fun, in addition to going into to the game.

So parking passes start at $168 or $24 a game on top of tickets and concessions? I think I’ll sit in my basement and watch it on tv while drinking a beer. A beer that you can’t buy at the stadium unless you are in a suite. And they wonder why ticket sales are so low.

Don’t forget the mandatory $200 K-Fund Donation you have to pay for a parking pass. For $200 you get an orange lot pass, and the fee raises as you change lots to get closer to the stadium. So now you are paying over $50 per game just to park!
