Preparation hasn’t lightened up because it’s EKU
While we respect them because they’re our Southeastern neighbors, they’re still just an FCS school. It would get into many kids’ heads, but he believes they’ve had a good week of preparation.
Stoops believes the backups consistently bring it
One of the most anticipated aspects of the EKU game is seeing young faces we’ve heard about often in recruiting and during camp, but are too far down the depth chart for legitimate playing time. We will finally get to see many of them on Saturday. Seeing action for the first time should inspire many this week, but Stoops believes they consistently bring the intensity, regardless of the opponent.
“One of the reasons why we like them so much is they’re very focused, they’re into practice and working to get better every day,” Stoops said. As far as he’s concerned, they’ve had his trust for awhile, they just haven’t been good enough to beat out the guys in front of them.
Regie Meant will not play on Saturday, but Stoops is not worried about a long-term absence. Dorian Baker’s hand is fine; he’s getting the cast taken off today and will play Saturday. Boom Williams practiced again, but Stoops did not comment any further. Stoops also surprisingly said that Jordan Swindle will play on Saturday. I figured they’d hold him out for precautionary measure, but Stoop has said before he doesn’t believe in it. If they’re cleared to play, then they’ll play.
On the other side of the ball, EKU’s Dyshawn Mobley has been cleared to play. The former Wildcat running back was the OVC Offensive Player of the Year last year, but a hamstring injury has limited his reps this season.
Stoops Spoke with EKU Coach Dean Hood this Week
Stoops wanted to ensure to Coach Hood that he will not tolerate any nonsense from his players. If there’s fighting, they’re off the field and directly into his doghouse. Stoops also sent the coach his condolences for their fatal and tragic loss.
“I have great respect for him and their program and what they’ve done, and we’re looking forward to welcoming them to our stadium and playing a good, clean, hard-fought game.”
Stoops Can’t Take the Chopper to Paintsville
Because of the weather, Stoops won’t be able to make a grand entrance when he watches Kash Daniel play tonight. Instead, it’s a loooooong drive down the Mountain Parkway. He told us to keep it short because, “I’ve got to hit the road.”
He’ll also be out and about recruiting tomorrow night. If you see him at any local games, be sure to let KSR know.
