UK Earns USA Today’s 5th Most Miserable Week 1

Screen Shot 2016-09-03 at 11.51.55 PM

We all want to forget about last night, but we probably never will. This loss will go down as one of the worse in school history.

It hurt.

It was demoralizing.

It was miserable.

That’s why this week, UK landed on USA Today’s CFB Misery Index

As much as fans would like to list Kentucky at #1, surprisingly it could’ve been worse. Kentucky’s embarrassing loss only came in at #5 on the list:

5. Kentucky: It wasn’t a great weekend to be a Stoops brother, especially Mark as he enters a monster season. Kentucky has given him everything he needs from sparkling new facilities to a big, fat contract, and all he’s produced is some nice recruiting classes and 12 wins (just four in the SEC) in three seasons.

The Wildcats also have had a habit of losing winnable games and blowing big leads, both of which were factors in a 44-35 loss to Southern Mississippi. Kentucky led by 25 in the second quarter before a total second-half implosion. It’s bad enough on its own, but even worse because Southern Miss’ offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson got a Gatorade bath at the end of the game. Why? Before the 2015 season, Kentucky hired Dawson to run its offense but threw him under the bus quickly when things fell apart.

Dawson landed at Southern Miss, returned to Lexington and put up 520 yards in the opener. All things considered, it could not have gone worse for Stoops. The fan base has already started to turn on him but held out hope this year would be different. It looks no different after one week, and remaining support is teetering.

In case you were wondering, USC was the most miserable, following their blowout loss to Alabama.

Speaking of the SEC, four other schools made the list, and that’s not including Tennessee. They could’ve easily been the 6th SEC team to make the misery index. Will that continue to play out as the season progresses? Who knows, maybe it’ll work in UK’s favor down the road.

USA Today: Misery Index Week 1

UPDATE:

Looking ahead to next week, Florida opens up as a 16.5 favorite over Kentucky.

What are you thoughts as the Cats head into the Swamp? Any optimism left to end the streak?

I’m just going to predict we go 2-10 so I don’t get my hopes up again, and if we win any other game besides Austin Peay and New Mexico State I will take it as a nice surprise.

Even if we’d beaten so miss 79-10, I’d still pick the gators by at least 35.

I’ve accepted that uk will never play competitive football and after stoops handgun comment I’m firmly on the fire stoops bandwagon.

Maybe it’s from all the wild turkey I drank last night, but the more I think about this game, the more I feel like someone is twisting a knife in my skull. I’m probably going to need a LOT more Wild Turkey next Saturday.

The cocahes cleary weren’t trying to “open up the playbook” too much before Florida, but didn’t provide any solutions for getting the defense off the field. They had an irrational confidence that we’d hold on. Expect a more diverse offensive look against the Gators, but it still probably won’t be enough with the D-Line.

Thought Kentucky was going to have a rough time getting to 6 wins counting SMU as a win. With the loss, I’m not saying it’s impossible, but 50-1 odds that we go bowling. So with that said, there’s little use in investing much more time following this team when there’s little of chance of there being anything to get excited about.

As miserable as it was for us UK fans, can you imagine how miserable it was for Mama and Papa Stoops with the Oklahoma and UK loses.

Yeah, their boys are siphoning millions out of the coffers of the richest money makers in their respective states. I’m sure they are really miserable.

Didn’t even talk to the man that is what this holier than thou UK administration has given us. Let he without sin cast the first stone.

Stoops unfortunately will be here too long before he is pushed out. Too much money invested in him and the staff. A former defensive coordinator who has yet to produce a defense that can stop a rum game. Shame on you Stoops shame on you.
I will gladly take UF and give the points and bet the farm.

Mark Stoops last Season if we don’t make a Bowl Game… I’m not even looking forward to the Florida game… So Sad

Rumors of unhappy LSU fans and boosters are starting to swirl again. UK should buyout Stoops remaining contract and go get Les Miles.

Stoops demonstrates yet again that he is not a head coach. Past time for him to go.

Great thinking jwa… unfortunately our Athletic Director is without judgment, sense, or understanding.

Barnhart’s last 2 selections for head football coach had a total of 0 wins as a head coach.

He has all kinds of excuses for his failed tenure yet refuses to admit lacking the single most important skill required. The UK Board & President are now going to feel the heat for their lack of oversight & continuing to enable one of the SEC’s most faithful fanbases to be dissolved under Barnhart’s tenure.

When we end up 2-10 or 3-9 and Stoops returns, Mitch is going to look like a huge idiot. Because of the ridiculous buyout, we will be stuck with Poops next year. Thanks Mitch, you loser.

A 16.5 point spread is too conservative. Florida wins by 21.50. Florida will run all day long on Stoop’s Follies. Last night was worse than Joker Phillips’ teams. At least Joker beat Petrino, Louisville, and Tennessee. Barnhart swooped the witch for the devil. I’m not watching another football game this season. Due to Joker and Stoops I despise football period. High School, College, and NFL. I’m done.

The only way this season is saved (from the fans perspective) is if we beat Florida. IT is a long shot, but judging by our offensive production and defensive stinginess coming from the secondary in the first half, then we can do it. FLA doesnt have a running QB which means he wil look to pass. IF DJ can focus a creative run stop and put them in passing downs, then I feel we can cause them to turnover at least once. This secondary will turnover alot of teams. The interceptions saturday were not easy ones to grab and against a great QB in Mullens. IT shows the talent that our secondary really has. Our offense can finally catch passes and our running is still good, but we had so many explosive plays from the pass game that we didnt need the run, plus in the second half we didnt have the ball enough to even earn respectable yards. I believe that the cats became over confident at the half. Hoepfully this opens their eyes, because I believe our offense is good enough to win us some games. I have UK going to the Swamp and winning. UK 34 FLA 24 in a shocker. Fans get optimistic and somewhat back on board.

My thoughts? I would love to tell the UK PLAYERS to GROW UP! However, I have finally come to the conclusion that as long as Mark Stoops and DJ Eliot are on our sidelines, this type of football is what we are going to get, so get used to it.
