Tuesday Practice Notes from the Offense

Shannon Dawson had plenty to say today after a blowout turned into a squeaker.  He’s well aware of what could have happened if the offense was firing on all cylinders, and is not ashamed to take some of the blame.

“I don’t live in a fantasy world where they’re going to make every throw.”

Dawson challenged us to bring him game tape of a quarterback making every throw.  His office is open during weekdays if you’d like to.  He said that Patrick had a few slight misses, but only four or five egregious errors.  One of those, of course, was the interception.  “He was trying to be too perfect,” Dawson said.

They took what the defense gave them

It’s the reason why there were so many deep balls and so few runs up the middle.  They essentially stacked the box and dared them to make big plays deep.  It was a gutsy move, but it worked because Dawson had no idea what their defense was going to do.  He regrets not having a better flow of the game in the second half, but his aggressive personality couldn’t resist going deep.  Unfortunately, it led them to too many 2nd and longs.

Boom’s First Boom was a “Blessing”

Even though he always is prepared to make a big Boom, he was humbled and blessed to open up a new stadium with a 75-yard touchdown.  Most importantly, he was happy to share it with his teammates, his family and the Big Blue Nation.

Dawson Compared the Game to Golf

He told Patrick after the game to have a short memory and remain calm.  If you chunk a drive, you can still recover and make a great putt to save par.  If you hit a perfect drive and approach, you can still 2-putt for par.  “They’re both pars.  They don’t draw a picture on the scorecard,” Dawson said.

If Dawson s personality defines his play calling maybe we need to look elsewhere

We just didnt look like we were very well coached. up 20 throwing the ball all over the place. horrible tecnique by the D LINE. both lines getting manhandled by a sunbelt team. best player on the field only carries the ball 10 times. and i could go on…..

Go back and watch the game. We had to throw it deep because they were stacking 8-9 in the box. Actually, it’s pretty clear you and 90% of the idiots commenting/calling in don’t know a thing about football.

If any other player played as poorly as PT, would they be taken out of the game at least for a few plays? PT is a 4 year JR, he has got to get it together.

Obviously, that depends. QB is the most important position on the field, and it only goes two deep. It’s more delicate than taking Garrett Johnson out, even Jordan Swindle at tackle or Melvin Lewis at DT.

He did throw 3 TDs as well and we got the win. I was looking forward to seeing Drew Barker get a few snaps like coach Stoops has mentioned he may, if we would’ve converted that opportunity in the redzone and others in the 3rd quarter, I think we would’ve seen him get a series or two.

But can’t really compare QB to other positions that way for those reasons.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda. If Ifs and buts were candy and nuts, it be Christmas every day. Give Coach Dawson a salary raise for his comments. Sometime say something profound like I will get my offense firing on all cylinders instead of making excuses week after week after week.

We WON. Yes there are many areas for improvement but the bottom line is we won. The Defense stepped up when needed and we scored enough to get the victory. If you want to choose to abandon ship after year 3 game 1, I won’t stop you, but for God’s sake the idiotic comments I read on here and hear on KSR are ridiculous.
