The Trinity Shamrocks will be favorites to win their 27th state title and may even push for a top 10 finish nationally.

Three star linebackers Jack Dingle (Cincinnati) and Charles Ely (App St.) return from last year’s state championship team. Quarterback Nathan McElroy will be in the Mr. Football conversation. Last year he threw for 2,597 yards, 31 TDs and only 9 picks. One thousand yard rushers Armon Tucker and Brad West also return.

The Shamrocks defeated Male 28-6 in the 6A finals, avenging a 20-17 loss earlier in the year when current UK player Izayah Cummings had a great game and caught the game winner for the Bulldogs in overtime. The Shamrocks held Male to only 150 yards of offense in the state title game, while McElroy threw for 193 yards and two scores.

The Shamrocks moved up five spots to No. 15 in USA Today Super 25 preseason rankings after more states recently cancelled football, causing those teams to be excluded from the rankings.

Trinity will play a tough schedule, as always. Circle October 30 on your calendar because they host the Bowling Green Purples. The Purples are led by tight end Jordan Dingle, one of UK’s top targets who recently picked up an offer from Ohio State.

I thought…I remember reading somewhere that schools were limited to in-state competition only. If that’s the case, Trinity will NOT face a tough schedule. No one in Kentucky can compete with them.

So a school bluntly recruits and chests and you give them a shout out.

Ha !! Clearly a fan of a Shamrock victim. Trinity doesn’t cheat…’s a private school that attracts students from all over. Trinity is most accomplished sports program in Kentucky history…..don’t be a jealous hater, take your butt-whippings like a man.

If they didn’t “recruit” how could they compete with public schools that offer free tuition regardless of academic or athletic status?

The 3rd linebacker is Branden Stearman. Defensive MVP, leading tackler, has several scholarship offers but is uncommitted – 6’1″ 220lbs 3 year starter. Why leave him out of the article??
