We all know Charlotte is bad, but exactly how bad are they?
Tom Fornelli of CBS tracks the worst of the worst each week in The College Football Bottom 25. You might remember Fornelli as a KSR call-in guest last year. I’ve kept up with him since, especially this beautiful disaster.
The year began without Charlotte present, giving the first-year program some time to display their awfulness. Since Week Five, they’ve proved that they’re as bad as you think. Here’s a rundown of how they’ve fared in his poll since then.
Week 5: 20th
“I knew it was only a matter of time before you came to us here in The Bottom 25, Charlotte. Don’t feel bad about it. It’s your first year in the FBS, and The Bottom 25 is a rite of passage. You’ll probably be here a lot.”
Week 6: 21st
Week 7: 19th
Week 8: 15th
Week 9: 10th
It may have taken half a season, but we all knew they could crack that Top 10.
Week 10: 9th
In the “Bottom 25 Game of the Week,” Charlotte couldn’t get their first C-USA victory against UTSA, a fellow FBS bottom dweller. The 49ers lost on a 4th quarter field goal to the roadrunners. Fornelli described UTSA’s play with an appropriate metaphor, “If these Roadrunners were a Looney Tunes character, then Wile E. Coyote would have never starved to death.”
Week 11: 9th
Fornelli says: “The 49ers are riding high on their eight-game losing streak, and I think this team has what it takes to get to The Bottom 5, even with two wins. It’s just been that impressive.”
Kentucky gets them at the number 9 spot. They’ll probably show their ugly faces once again, but Kentucky’s gonna Kentucky.
