Totally Random and Completely Incomplete Media Days Recap: LSU

LSU was actually scheduled to go last today, but, perhaps sensing the fatigue in the room, Les Miles stormed in first and got things rolling, stealing Ole Miss and Hugh Freeze’s spot. I am definitely not complaining. Les is the best, so let’s break down his funniest moments.

Les Miles will not wear wacky shoes, but he will stand next to them at the podium

Each team has a helmet up at the podium during their session, but a pair of yellow and purple shoes accompanied Miles and the LSU helmet. Why? Because Miles refuses to wear goofy shoes like Dan Mullen and Bret Bielema.

“I can tell you that, I did not bring tennis shoes,” Miles said. “That is a product of a sports information director who knows that I have an attachment to those shoes. I’m wearing regular shoes and regular socks.”

Les Miles doesn’t have time for your shoe wars.

His daughter’s nickname is Smacker

In his intro, Miles went on a long diatribe about his family, and how his children growing up makes him feel older. I tuned out most of this, but looked up when he started talking about his daughter, “Smacker.”

“My oldest daughter, Smacker Miles, is chasing a personal time and a personal best at UT, having a great experience at Texas, and hopefully I can get her to come home this weekend after she swims,” he said.

I realize Smacker is just a nickname, but what a nickname.

He can’t pronounce “Lealaiatafao”

When asked about Travonte Valentine and Trey Lealaiatafao, two suspended players, Miles admitted he can’t pronounce the latter’s last name.

“Some guys are no longer with the team, and that would be Tra Valentine and Trey Lealaimataf, whose name I can’t pronounce,” Miles said. “I’ve tried for a year, I swear. But those two guys are no longer with our team.”

Maybe that’s a good thing?

Leonard Fournette is wearing this

Miles was not amused by the red pants, which Fournette apparently bought at Dillard’s for $6.99.

“It was a mistake,” Miles told reporters. “If I could spray paint them, I would.”

I’m more intrigued by the jacket. Did he get that from Brian Fellow?

Do you guys care about Ole Miss? Me neither. I’m hitting the road.
